I would like to see a 2nd level sec team run a true air raid offense

I’m not sure it would work but it would be interesting to see. The top 6 or 7 teams in the sec are obvious most years and are the same teams. Get a team like Arkansas or a&m and see what happens. Recruit defense and quarterback.

Kentucky ran it for several years

I was just 7 years old back then(had to actually google when he was at Kentucky). So I’m guessing it didn’t work very well.

Bobby Petrino threw the ball at Arkansas, worked for them.

Ehhh, it kind of worked. Prior to Mumme, Kentucky was one of the worst p5 programs. At the very least, mumme’s offense attracted recruits as they landed Tim couch.
Kentucky was never very good, but I do think they started scoring points and were better than they were under bill curry.

Haven’t ole miss and auburn tried that in recent years to moderate success?

A&M didn’t run an air raid but they did throw the ball a lot with Manziel. I’m surprised more SEC teams don’t go the A&M/Auburn route.

It got QB Tim Couch drafted #1 overall by the Browns in 1999.

Wasn't Kliff there for at least one of those years? He is definitely an air raid guy.

Baw, Couch played for Curry and ran the option.

Because the SEC is typically a pound the ball offense and really good defenses. It seems like any team that has that air raid offense has horrible defenses. For example A&M and the Big 12

Closest successful stint was Arkansas with Petrino, but his offense is at its peak when its balanced. 2010 with Knile Davis was the best Arkansas team since joining the SEC.

More like it made Tim Couch.
High percentage passes dink and dunk...dude put up ridiculous completion % stats against SEC defenses which made him look way more attractive to Scouts than he was in reality.
So, would it work? No shite it would work, it already did...and produced a #1 pick from freakin' Kentucky.
In fact, Fun' N' Gun, air Raid, etc...is like Kyrptonite to the SEC.
They prefer defending traditional high school Les Miles football compared to innovation or being spread out.

When the hell has Auburn ever run an air raid.

Kevin Sumlin and Kliff Kingsbury are Air Raid disciples so their offense for a few years had many Air Raid principles incorporated.
Auburn tried to install an Air Raid-like system with the Tony Franklin experiment.

I think defining "work" is key here.
Results wise, what "worked" for Kentucky is about to get Sumlin fired and got multiple Arkansas coaches fired.
That said... my pipe dream is still Mike Leach with a good, recruiting D-coordinator in Fayetteville.

I think couch was one of the best regarded/rated high school qb of all time.
I was wrong though that mumme ball brought couch to Kentucky. Curry recruited him but was fired during couch’s first season.
