I respect Davis. More NFL players should walk out and retire.

These teams, coaches and the league itself don't gaf about players. They are disposable commodities. Crash test dummies. The league doesn't care about safety. If they did they would institute real steroid and PED prevention (the biggest safety issue in football).

Any player who has guaranteed money and still has a working brain should walk it off before disaster happens.

The sooner this league dies, the better.

Players play football knowing the risk of CTE... why is it the NFL’s fault?

he gets to keep all the signing bonus and all but 250K of the one-year deal.

He was playing for less than $18,000 per game.

Smart business move.

Negative, if the team wants it back.

Calvin Johnson repays signing bonus

quote:

Calvin Johnson actually repaid at least $1 million of his signing bonus to the Detroit Lions when he retired in March 2016 -- much more than the $320,000 NFLPA records showed at the time -- a source confirmed to ESPN.

Johnson made a seven-figure payback to the Lions, the source said. At the time of Johnson's retirement, the franchise could have tried to recoup up to $3.2 million from Johnson -- the remaining prorated part of his signing bonus from the contract extension he signed in 2012 -- based on the collective bargaining agreement.

I don't know if he actually had a signing bonus but if he did, the prorated unearned part has to be paid back.

And he's not collecting on his per game salary, guaranteed or not. He didn't get cut, he walked.

By being able to realize that he was slipping, not being 100% focused, and getting out before he made a mistake that would stick with him.

If you like college football, you better pray the NFL doesn't die, because if it does, elite athletes will find other sports to play and college football will die with it.

CFB will never die.

Alabama will still field a football team. And I'll still love rooting for that football team.

guaranteed money

The good that will come out of this is that the owners will demand to do away with guaranteed money if the contract isn't fulfilled by the player.

How much has the NFLPA spent over the years on CTE research on behalf of its own members? I suspect we know the answer...

Or it could be the fact he's a head case and has always acted like an immature idiot. There's a reason the Dolphins traded someone of his physical talent at a premium position.
