Unlimited transfer portal is the problem. No harm comes from LSU players doing a Cane's commercial.

every other bowl game means absolutely nothing
That was the case with the BCS other than the title game. As well as any bowl game with teams outside the top 5 at most. The previous systems also made it possible for an undefeated team to not be the champion which made the entire season meaningless.
What we really need is to break up the superconferences, remove committees from the equation, and get rid of unlimited transfers.

I agree and disagree with this. Do you think Cuba is cool. I think it needs to be refined and rained in but look at the parody. The days of Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, Ohio State stashing talent on the 2 and 3 deep are over.
I honestly kinda like it and don’t feel bad for the schools. They had years to get in front of this and blew it off like no way players will ever get paid and guess what.
Teams that couldn’t consistently compete are now getting playoff spots and blue bloods are on the outside looking in. Change is good welcome to a capitalist society not a communist state. These players are getting paid not off what they decide they are worth but what the free market has decided they are worth.

would be cool if some internet reporter type put something together that showed the top ~20 profiteers. I’d like to know who to be mad at.
In college football NONE of them are players I would guess

Unlimited transfer portal is the problem.
Unlimited transfers with NIL, means a constant state of free agency. You can manage one, but not both.
That is why Saban quit.

I don’t have time to do this, but what percentage of SEC rosters went to high school in that state and how does it compare to 2005?

Not only was it a Supreme Court decision that officially opened the door for NIL (9-0 decision by the most conservative Supreme Court in over 100 years) but almost every significant district or appellate court decision that has been pro-NIL or pro-player movement/anti-NCAA regulation has been a conservative judge or panel.
The two states that have successfully sued to block ncaa enforcement of anti-NIL and eligibility rules are Tennessee and Florida. Texas has threatened. Other red states are leading the way on allowing high school NIL (Missouri I believe).
The old NCAA was a bastion of regulation and artificial market manipulation in favor of a better product. That is not something that jives with conservative values. That’s what we have now, complete free market and let chaos reign.
If you’re going to bring politics into this at least blame the right side

Probably tons of bench warmers
the guys that play are probably much less than 2005
With the Transfer Portal and NIL, can't imagine it would be the same % with any of the major programs.

Yup. CFB was something beautiful built on tradition over 100+ years and TV executives destroyed it in like 10 years. Sad.

College football needs to die in its current iteration.
NIL is ruining this once great sport.
There is NO WAY teams can continue spending $20M for rosters yearly. That money will dry up eventually. It has to. Even rich people run out of money if they spend recklessly.
NIL was supposed to be about a kid getting a few hundred bucks to do a Canes commercial or to be able to sign shite and make a few dollars. And I was fine with that. What we have now is stupid.

It will for some teams and not others

Yeah, the greed and corruption of ESPN and the SEC has finally caused college football to completely jump the shark.

Make it a larger tournament with every “bowl” game being a playoff game. Throw in like 32 teams, and you’d still have all those silly sponsorships appeased.

Just looked at 2005, LSU had 4 players NOT from SEC states
2025 has 14
2025 has 14

A school like Texas Tech didn't suddenly get really good at coaching, developing players, and kitchen table recruiting visits.
Billionaire alumni bought a CFP team.
Michigan State alumnus about to do the same thing.
I love the Longhorns but seven win Sark didn't just suddenly become a great head football coach

College Football Saturdays are so engrained in our culture and is just the norm for us. Our hearts might not be in it as much, but we're not going to stop watching.
I’m still willing to watch and be won over but it ain’t looking good. I watched IU/OSU last night and enjoyed it. Hope the playoffs are interesting.

TBF, Tech got 6 three to six rounders for the price of a 5 star/first rounders and made a fun team. They moneyballed NIL and I don’t hate them for it.
