A dynasty at the upstart cow college in their back yard while the flagship university never quite gets over the hump.

Well, they hired two past their prime old timers (Holtz and Spurrier), and then a guy who squandered a good opportunity in his only other HC gig (Boom), so, as LSU fans will tell you, you get what you pay for.

USCe's 1984 loss to Navy is one of the worst losses in CFB history.

I mean, they were horrendous for years, so the past decade has been pretty good.

Idaho is the flagship and owned Boise State for a long time. In a period of ten years that flipped to Boise being in the Top 25 consistently and Idaho being forced down to FCS.

Slightly different scenario since

1. Both are in the same city in this case
2. USC is a traditional CFB power, whereas neither Clemson or South Carolina are

Clemson always had more potential to be a big time player...better CFB history...better tradition in football. Clemson had a Natty in 1981.

South Carolina is a golfing school that basically went 4-7 or 5-6 for 50 years in football.

They weren't forced. They gave up.

Holtz and Spurrier turned them around bigly. Spurrier just stuck around too long

Is it really surprising that a trash school with a trash history in athletics is trash?

No?

I rest my case

Clemson's better CFB history,

Didn't that come via cheating with subsequent NCAA penalities under Charlie Pell?

No one would touch him after, well except Florida.??

You ain’t cheating, you ain’t trying.

The NCAA didn't get Pell until we had him. You're thinking of Danny Ford.

Spurrier might have been past his prime, but he did work at USCe.

You're calling the University of South Carolina a trash school?

Show us on the doll where South Carolina touched you.

It sucks, but besides maybe Nebraska and Texas A&M, you won't find a more loyal fanbase. Columbia will be giddy with hope in August and there'll be 80k at Williams-Brice in the home opener.
