Ironic that nowadays the Kings and Oilers are big rivals, unfortunately the Kings having the worst of that rivalry lately.

Lawrence Taylor. The modern offense we have today came about because of the way he played defense.

Tiger

Is this sarcasm ?

Babe Ruth came along and was hitting more home runs than most teams.
Gretzky the same in hockey shattering records.
What the hell did Tiger do to revolutionize golf ?

I mean MLB started in 1903 so revolutionizing the sport ten years after the league started isn’t that wild

I never knew baseball didn’t exist until the MLB created the World Series.

This is borderline semantics but I would argue he revolutionized the game and not the sport of golf. Brought a whole new level of interest to the casual fan, responsible for the boom in golf course construction tournament purses, and became a cultural icon.

As for the sport, he was certainly the greatest of his generation and arguably all time, but he didn't destroy any records in the way Ruth and Gretzky did.

They literally lengthened courses (most notably Augusta) and decreased the size of fairways to “Tiger Proof” some courses so he couldn’t run away with so many tournaments.

I got to see him score a goal in person against the Stars when he was with the Rangers. Our seats were behind the goal in the upper deck. It was a great view I'd never had before that game. You could see guys break open on the ice. Usually sat closer to the ice, but those tickets were all we could get way beforehand. That seat was much better than the 2nd row seats to the side of one goal we had once.

If you hood a 9 iron down it can be as long as the angle that it’s hooded to.

But new technology with clubs and balls made for all golfers hitting the ball farther. I saw 14 year old kids hitting 300 yard drives easily in that era.

To compare his hitting length with players hitting wood headed woods and the old blade irons isn’t a good comparison. Plus the balls were made different. The ones I started with were wound with rubber bands.

Different times, but what the old guys did for little money paved the way for him to sign a a multimillion dollar endorsement contract before he ever swung a club professionally.

But he was good and what the sport needed at the time since the older golfers were, well, getting old.
