Man Ryan Day is so smart. What a plan to build a champ - pay them the most money
it’s a very solid plan if you have the most money and ability

that money could go to helping all of the other sports, or fielding a new sport, and get more people into college athletics across the country.

But we don’t watch those sports

My question is is $20 million some massive number in today's NIL world?

Do Bama and UGA have comparably talented rosters for $8 million? Or are they at $20 million too?

Is OSU even an outlier?

This is such revisionism. It's never been done anywhere near this scale.

Didn't Ole Miss bring in like 10 high cash transfers this offseason?

We are also assuming the $20 million number is accurate. I have my doubts.

Exactly. We're salso ignoring the fact that 9 guys that had good draft ratings decided to stay. A very big chunk of any money that was spent was spent on roster retention and IMO that is a smart way to do it.

At SEC media days there was a $15 million to be competitive number thrown around.

LINK

So $20 million isn't some crazy number, but it also probably isn't that far off from what the other top schools are paying

The funny part about all of this is that we all know there exists no roster on planet earth that Ryan Day could successfully navigate to the promised land.

Why does that really matter, though? The big programs were still outbidding the small ones, now its just public and the amounts skyrocketed. Other than just jealousy I really don't get why this matters to a fan. Mahomes was just as fun to watch on his rookie deal as he was after the Chiefs gave him a bazillion dollars.

nor was it literally open season on players from other teams.

This and the transfer portal are an actual problem. You had seniors that HATED your rivals back in the day because they had played them 3 times by that point. Now by the time they are seniors they might be playing for that rival

I think they probably should be the favorites this year, but because of potential OL issues its not some kind of inevitable feeling that you'd see them in the championship like you had with some Bama teams for example.

Having a stout OL where you can just pound the rock on days where your passing game just isn't clicking or whatever gives you a lot more wiggle room. Yeah, Ohio St has incredible WRs.... but if its a rainy slop-fest can that OL pound the rock against Michigan? Maybe. But I bet Georgia or Alabama could.

We haver the running backs but you are right, the offensive line needs to step up in a big way. Having a mobile quarterback that's willing to run for tough yards is a plus.

The melt when Ryan Day chokes and they lose to Michigan for the 4th year in a row is going to be legendary.

Their new center can barely snap the ball.

This is an underrated storyline.

Through camp no issues, but I believe Bama fans said there were no issues until there were

I saw an early camp Twitter video of him snapping it over the QB's head, but I guess there haven't been any more.

He's fine until he runs into a defensive lineman that's even slightly above average. Given that schedule, you may not notice anything until the postseason, which is pretty much the absolute worst time for those issues to come up.

The only time he didn't have the yips against a good team was UGA, weirdly enough. Who knows what his deal is.

Yea you can get the yips and then get over it, or it can ruin your entire career

Jose Altuve couldn't throw the ball to first base for like 2 months and he's a sure fire HOFer

Closers in baseball have a few bad outings and it's the end of their careers

I don't know enough about centers who were fine, then had the yips, then were fine again. Most probably just move to guard if they can?
