They wanted Baker and Mahomes' college coach after seeing how successful those QBs were. McVay's success with the Rams played a big role too.
They talked themselves into the idea that Kliff is a great offensive coach and just couldn't recruit or field a good defense in college. They hired Vance Joseph to shore up that end.

People that think A+ offensive mind = great head coach don’t understand how sports work. Apparently the people running the Cardinals fall into this group.
