I honestly think some of you have never seen a 80s basketball game in your life. Defense was completely non-existant, 115-110 was the average score for a game between 2 good teams

doubtful, Lebron outweighs Rodman by 50+

Rodman constantly played against people heavier than him and it didn't matter. He handled Shaq even a few times

You're the only one in this thread that thinks the game today is more physical than it was then. Taking out hand checking killed any chance of that ever being true.

todays are bigger, faster, and stronger but we are supposed to believe the game is less physical.

On average players today are bigger stronger and faster, but in the 90's the style of play in the NBA was much, much more physical than it is today. Too physical actually. It hurt the game and they had to start changing rules to clean it up.

I think today's game is a good sweet spot between the free wheeling offenses of the early 80's and the physical play of the 90's.

I am not bing a homer but you can look up defensive stats from guys like Jordan, Dumars, Payton, Mutumbo, Stockton, Kareem. I could go on.

Some of the best defensive players ever and they were from that era.

That's not to discredit the good defensive players of today because there are plenty but to say D wasn't played then is idiotic.

Dude, Kevin McHale was an enforcer. The dude had the body and athleticism of a Greek god.

99-04 was the best defensive era in the NBA ever; hand checking wasnt eliminated until 05.

you got your years mixed up.

also, back in the 80s, 90s, you couldnt play zone..so the elite scorers had it easier.

They may be bigger and faster but when you aren't allowed to hand check or have guys LBJs size flopping like a fish out of water for calls and gets them it's pretty obvious how much less physical it is.

I didn't get my years mixed up, I was referring to the physical style of play not just hand checking or your claimed best era of defense. I was also just using general time periods using decades (obviously every era didn't stop and end abruptly and didn't directly coincide with the calendar changing to an even ten year period).

Exceptions to every rule. That doesn't change the status quo.

I'm just saying, extraordinary players who are great because of their fundamentals (kevin mchale or tim duncan) or because of their athleticism (shawn kemp or russell westbrook) will play at pretty much the highest level in any era.

Where would you rank him just at his position?

Serious question here.

There are a ton of greats at PG.

Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, Nash, Isiah, Stockton, Oscar Robertson, Magic, Marbury, Dennis Johnson, Hardaway, Iverson, Bob Cousy and I am sure I missed some.

Where do you see CP3 just at his position?

Magic, Stockton, Thomas, Big O are all greater than him. For his career Kidd, as of now is better than him. In 5 years, he'll be top 5, but not right now

I agree with that but some would do better in different eras than others just because it might match their style of play more.

Rodman would have flagrant 2s every night of the week if he played today for example.

Guys like MJ, Kobe, LBJ though it wouldn't matter when they played as they're all talented enough and smart enough players to play in any era.
