How does Denver always do such a great job supporting five major league teams? I understand they have almost 3,000,000 people, but they’ve had four/five teams for over 20 years before their population got to this level. I also understand they have a great economy and a lot of jobs, but you still have to get asses to seats on a Tuesday night, regardless of wealth. In fact, they had the big 4 when the population was at 2.0 million.

Las Vegas is getting baseball within five years and probably the NBA within 10. They have a similar metro population but replicating Denver’s success will be hard considering all the transplants and service economy.

Larger cities than Denver metro don’t even do as well. Miami, Atlanta, Tampa to name a few.

I wanna say the Rockies inaugural season broke the previous attendance record by a wide margin. I think it was over 4.5 million people for the season which is insane.

Seems like Coors Field doesn’t draw as many as Mile High Stadium did.

They had to expand Coors to 50,000 due to demand which is incredible.

It's over 3.5 million people if you include Aurora and a few other fringe suburbs, almost all of which are affluent communities with families and money to burn.

Don’t the Rapids play in a suburb?

Yep, and it's terrible to try and get to also. They have a decent fanbase but the team has mostly been mismanaged over the years and hurt the growth.

I wonder how much the lack of sports in the surrounding areas of Colorado plays a role. The Broncos, Rockies, and Avalanche are the only NFL, MLB and NHL teams within a 600 mile radius of Denver and the Nuggets are the only NBA team within a 500 mile radius of Denver. If you’re from Wyoming, the western parts of Nebraska and South Dakota, southern Montana, the eastern part of Utah, northern part of New Mexico, etc.., the closest professional sports team to you will likely be a Denver sports team. I bet they draw a ton of people from those areas who go to their games.

Mostly just the Broncos and Rockies that do really well.

Avs are Stanley Cup favorites this year and they finished 11th in attendance behind cities like St. Louis, Tampa, Nashville, Vegas, Dallas. Still solid obviously.

Nuggets were 16th in NBA.

Denver's metro population is larger than most probably realize.

Not to mention the entire I-25 corridor in that state.
