The best thing to ever happen to a pickup game is a running clock. 15 mins a game. If you want to argue, fine, just know the clock is ticking.

The funniest shite ever was when I had to argue with this deaf dude over a call.

He always won his calls, after a few minutes you realize how stupid you look, and just give him the ball.

You seriously argue about calls that long? I just call my own fouls. If someone fouls me and doesn't call it, oh well. Its a pick up basketball game for fricks sake. If people need to lie to win, then they so be it. Id rather play than deal with bitching and moaning the entire game.

Well I'm never heavily involved in those arguments lasting 10 minutes or longer

It is usually the same 2-3 people who won't stop arguing about a call, but we all have to suffer as a result.

in high school if you called a foul over two seconds after it happened the black kids would say "LATE!", which was supposed to negate the fact that they just broke my arm.

Sooooooo true.

The place I work at, when there is a dispute it goes on for 5 minutes. (Thank God for the running clock).

When I go to another location (with much different clientele) there's hardly any arguments. And if there is, it's shoot for it now, and move on.

Also: When I went to school at Valdosta State, any time you got fouled, called it, and made the bucket, it didn't count. Apparently when you get mugged you shouldn't be able to make the shot?

When I went to school at Ohio we never played this way. If you made the bucket on a foul call, you got the point and the ball changed hands.

You give the guy the foul and shame him for it if it is a pussy call. That usually keeps everyone honest.

Sorry for AND1'ing your arse.

My least favorite guy in the gym is the one who never just misses a shot - every time he misses he calls a foul on the guy defending him.

I've played with idiots who will only count it if you say And 1, otherwise the ball is taken up top. About the only time I've been involved in an argument on the court lasting longer than 10 seconds. It made no sense as to how you driving me into the wall makes a basket null and void because I didn't say And 1 as I try to not break my arm bracing my fall

3-5 minutes typically? Up to 10? Seriously? I legitimately don't think I've been in a pickup game where a call has been argued longer than 20 seconds. At that point, a person either just gives up the argument or we play it like a HS/college jumpball. Arguing it for longer is stupid, because: 1) you're not going to convince the other side, and 2) it's just pickup basketball.

It's a Late call if you wait to see if your shot is going in before you call the foul. Know your pickup rules.
