You can't. They will always be ULL.

I don’t have a clue about this situation, but I know even at Ulm if they schedule a game the same time as LSU’s , attendance will be down.

ULM’s attendance problem is much worse than the ULL’s. I bet ULM would love to have those attendance figures.

I know that ULM will never leave Division 1 but they are much more suited to being in the Southland and should have never left. Being successful is what draws warm bodies to games and having a chance to compete against teams that you are more financially and regionally aligned with makes the most sense.

It’s not trolling to say that a lot of people just feel they have better things to do. ULL games are not major events. I think a lot of smaller schools have the same issue, unless they’re located where there’s nothing much to do.

Idaho dropped to FCS. Cincinnati briefly dropped to FCS then was in a BCS bowl a decade or so later

I think the answer is in this thread. More regional opponents and a G5 playoff.

Winning a title of G5 schools would be way cooler than winning the NOLA Bowl against ECU...

I would be hyped for a playoff game against Tulane or La Tech.

The problem with the head to head with LSU is that ULL was having success about 5-6 years ago because they were playing during the day and LSU was playing mostly at night. This year especially,LSU was flexed to a lot of day games for CBS...Vandy,Auburn,and Bama and MSU.

Also the economy has hurt. In 2011 oil was booming and there was a lot of money swimming around

That being said, I don't get it either. I used to get invited to tailgates out there and it was always a fun experience. The games were not bad either. Could it be that people are going for the tailgate social and the game is secondary or almost incidental.

There is some truth to this. Lafayette is a big on fads and the bandwagon mentality.
You see this every time something new opens. Long lines- everyone wants to go etc. This same thing happened when the Ice Gators came around- huge crowds then it faded.

The Lafayette O&G economy (ie most of it) fell off towards the end of 2014 to mid 2015 and hasn’t fully come back. That timeframe coincided with attendance and HUD’s teams dropping off.

This isn’t the only reason for lower attendance but it has definitely affected it.

The daytime games part is not really accurate. Most of the games have been at 6 pm unless TV has changed the times LINK

Regarding the tailgating, the monetizing of parking and tailgating spots has no doubt affected it. These changes were put in place to raise money for the RCAF, but have drastically affected the organic nature of tailgating. There has to be a happy medium

ULM played Grambling in Monroe.
ULL played Mississippi State in New Orleans.

Guess which game drew more?

There's a hint.

ULL played Southern a while ago, and I think it was a great event (granted it was also the first game of the season)

The only thing worse would be losing a playoff game to those bastards in Birmingham

WTF happened in that game? I thought La Tech moneyline @ UAB was the lock of the century. UAB had won a ton of close games, even against an FCS team

We didn’t have our starting quarterback or our top receiver.

We went from a conference player of the year in J’Mar Smith to a redshirt freshman who had a few minutes of garbage time.

Louisiana Tech crushes everyone on the schedule (except Texas) with J’Mar at quarterback. Would have beaten Marshall and UAB by double figures without the suspensions.

I used to have a tailgating spot, but chose not to renew in 2018. I reached out to the athletic department in 2017 in regards to the large increase in cost and mandatory fees for tailgating and how it would eventually drive me away. This was their reply.

"Based on the Alden report, and the challenge from the university to be more self-sufficient as a department, you will continue to see upticks in price in the areas where there is great demand. Despite the economy and successes on/off the field, we still have a ton of people looking for tailgate locations. I only tell you this because you are likely to see this upward trend continue in the near future. I’m not promising that but my guess is that is the direction it is going."

I think the increase from 2012 to 2017 was in the realm of 300% total cost, but I don't have my spread sheet anymore. I went to one game last year and was surprised they were charging for parking in the field across the street. They were also charging to park at Cajun Field for Festival this past year. Seems like they are trying to drain every dollar they can. May not be correct, but just my perspective. A few weeks ago I received a voicemail from the athletic dept to purchase a single game tailgating spot. They must not be selling them out anymore.
