I’ve been hearing about them for a couple of years but haven’t seen a full game. I’d consider taking kids in the 5-10 age range if mine were still that young.

I’ve started getting reels of them, the pre-pitch dancing makes me want to scream ‘get off my lawn’ although I’ve also seen some impressive trick catches. Made me wonder how many of these tricks end up as errors.

Isn't it like the globetrotters of baseball?

The big difference between the Bananas & Globetrotters is the Globetrotters are scripted to win every game

The Bananas games do not have a predetermined "winner"... pretty sure I stumbled upon the fact that... at least somewhat recently... the Bananas actually had a "losing" record for this year & the Party Animals had the "best" record in Banana Ball... not sure if that's still the case today

ETA: Much like an all-star game... the 1st 3/4 of a Banana Ball game are for fun & entertainment but if it's still close at the end... it will get intense as the teams try to secure a win

They also have an interesting way to settle tied games instead of extra innings

Pitcher, catcher, 1 fielder vs. a batter... batter's trying to hit a home run (over the fence I think is auto-win, inside the park gives other team shot to tie)... 1st team to score while other can't wins

What about the actual skills of anyone on the Bananas?

Did they play college or summer league?

I believe some if not most played college ball. I think the guy who plays on the stilts didn't play after high school.

This is basically like the Harlem Globetrotters. The basketball play isn't the most important part of the event.

I saw the ESPN thing on the Bananas... 1 of them was playing at Alabama on the visiting team

Someone yelled at him "stick to TikTok" as the Bama pitcher was delivering the ball & he ended up smashing a HR

We can all laugh at a Bama fan immediately regretting his heckling attempt can we not?

During the NBA Summer League games ESPN was promoting a women's pro softball or baseball league. Guess that's what they plan to show when MLB leaves them.
The bananas might be better than that.

Former LSU player Zach Watson is on the f firefighters. Many played college ball most at small colleges a few at well-known colleges.

- Games are only 2 hours.
- they play maybe 3 innings
- skits between every inning
- singing and dancing
- crowd engagement as the players routinely go into the stands
- trick plays such as backflips while catching fly balls
- tickets are cheap

You’re not their target audience. Children are. I don’t think it’s much of a mystery why they are entertaining for kids

Banana Ball is meant for families with young kids. There is a cool video on YouTube where their founder talks about it and he seems like a genuinely good guy.

But a random guy on a forum doesn't like it so the owner is obviously Hitler.

Baseball snobs are the absolute worst. How dare people have fun?!? The serial downvoter in all the posts explaining what this team is is a far bigger bitch than anyone involved in the SB.

I will say this, they are not catering to families. You can’t get tickets lol. Secondary market prices are insane. For the foolishness they are doing, you should be able to get plenty of tickets.

Is that what real sports have to look forward to for the generation that has zero attention span?

They play 9 innings... they just keep it moving by not allowing pitchers to step off the mound or batters to leave the box between pitches
