How bad did the Lakers screw themselves if Luka looks around next offseason?

Since the Lakers can't offer him the super max, there's a lot of chatter that it's not a guarantee that Luka signs a 5 year deal with L.A., might want to explore other options around the league.

They ditched AD, LeBron isn't long for the league (even though he's looking great lately), say Luka bolts for Miami or San Antonio, the future of the Lakers is Austin Reaves?

I feel L.A. has a good track record of keeping their stars around, but the what if is scary if you're a Lakers fan. Also, even if they do sign Luka, the big reason Dallas parted ways with him, dumb or not, is they were fearful of ending up in an Embiid type situation with his conditioning and injury history. Not sure what will light that fire under Luka to take his health seriously, but he's not on a good trajectory. Still a fearsome competitor, but that won't matter if you aren't on the floor.

They essentially called him fat on the way out. And Nico seems to be on a power trip. Probably a bridge burned.

Stay with me because I do have a relevant point here … I participate in a lot of Facebook baseball groups and one of them is always running these polls where they list four or five or six great players past and present and ask you to pick one or two to start your team with.

I always get flamed and called a doofus because I never pick Mike Trout, people point out his counting stats and analytic stats and tell me, “Don’t you know how good he is when he’s healthy?”

My response is always, “I don’t care how good he is when he’s healthy, if he’s consistently unhealthy and out of the lineup he’s no good to me because he’s not helping me beat people, which is the whole idea.”

The average sports fan doesn't realize how good Luka actually is.

Sit back, and just witness.

They didn’t make that trade for Luka to shop around. He’s already agreed in principle to a contract extension

The lakers only have to possibly deal with like 2/3 of what the Mavs would, so it's not nearly the same concern or potential franchise-killer

Nothing would be better than to have Ballmer offer him the max (if thats possible) and him walk across the street

Thats the great melt we all need

I don't think he was involved in the trade talks on purpose, so unless that happened yesterday it's not likely.

Luka looks uncomfortable in the Presser

He's just kind of staring off into the distance

Was listening to the Bill Simmons pod and whoever the guest was mentioned these talks have been going on for almost a month before the trade happened, and even though AD said he was unaware of what was going on, he waived his no trade clause pretty quickly.

Some are skeptical at how surprised people were acting about this.

Atrociously bad but it won't happen. Nobody is walking away from being "the guy" for the Lakers.

Neither he nor his agent even knew he was being traded until it happened and he seemed genuinely sick about it. But you think they've already discussed an extension?
