What's the story on this VA tech slide? Their next recruiting class is horrendous too. Fuente did wonders at Memphis.

He’s in over his head
Program with very high expectations, probably too high and it will always be hard to follow a legend. Especially the guy who took VT from a lower end program to a tier 2 program.

On in state talent alone they should be better

It’s probably hard as frick to get good talent there. But with UVA being successful his seat is definitely hot. Would be curious who they bring in. And with Foster retiring end of year that sucks for the program.

Not really
VT has become the major university in the state the last 20 years or so
NOVA/DC/Maryland and the Hampton roads areas are loaded with talent
VT used to keep all those players at home with no issues, problem is now the SEC is hitting those areas hard
And they have always had to fend off WVU, Maryland, Penn State and UVA for players

Fuente's fall is really strange. He built Memphis up from zilch. Maybe Porter had recruited reasonably well, but the team was awful. And in Fuente's first game, he lost to U.T. Martin.
Of course when he left, Memphis didn't go for one of his assistants ....they went completely outside.

I live in Memphis and people loved him here for reviving a program that was on life support. When VA tech hired him, I thought it was a slam dunk. Guess not. Players really liked him at Memphis but he has had a lot of transfers in Blacksburg.
