To be fair he is an “old 25”. Been playing pro basketball for a decade and doesn’t take care of himself. He isn’t a guy who is gonna play for another decade at a high level.
He wont be a James Hardwin I agree Boom

Some of you guys are dumb dumb Mavs have a starting lineup of Kyrie, Play, PJ, AD and Gafford. They're probably going to be one of the best defensive teams and still very good offensively. This trade automatically makes them win-now and one of the best in the league but somehow because dummies here think AD sucks this is a bad trade for Mavs.
Yup. I also don’t think anyone here realizes how bad Luka is defensively,

Most players peak late 20s bc that is when their bodies have fully developed and they have gained the experience playing v pros to be at their best on the basketball IQ side.
Luka was an early develop physically, already grown into his body and has been playing pros for years and years.
That has always signaled Early prime and early Decline compared to most players.

And he doesn't take care of his body. Like I said in the other thread, when he hits the wall it will be fast and hard. And probably within the next 4-5 years unless he pulls a 180 on taking care of himself (and does anyone expect that, especially from a Euro?)

Focusing on why you trade Luka alone really subterfuges the much bigger question of why trade him for a broken down 31 year old and barely any future assets
Like sure if you think Luka is a lemon and about to be off the road in a few years, trade him I guess, but when Bradley Beal is getting like quadruple the picks and assets you are getting, it’s mind numbingly stupid.
It’s like “hey I think my new car is about to kick the bucket, let me trade it in for a used BMW 3 series that’s out of warranty”

As I said, it's a combination of fixation on AD and win-now mode.
They clearly could have gotten more on the open market, but their GM thinks they can win a title and needed a big like AD/Giannis.
Likely a miscalculation, but it's a legit reason.

Picks? yes
Assets? no. Again, y'all are discounting a top-10 player like AD and his value.
Guys like Beal and Bridges go for multiple 1sts/swaps because no player of value went back.

Trading 25yr old Luka for Glass Davis tard level crazy
AD rarely misses games in LA. He was mostly hurt and missed games in NOLA.

It’s crazy to me that you of all people are defending this awful way to run a basketball team
Even with all that you left money on the table. You can bring a 3rd team in, you have no reason to rush this or do it as a fly by night operation. It’s completely malpractice of the GM position to do it without getting full value from the trade

Well look man, you’ve spent this thread discounting Luka’s value because is going to hypothetically explode in the next 5 years, meanwhile AD has a very real history of already being hard to keep on the court and win as the main guy
Saying on one side that Luka is a depreciating asset that the Mavs wanted to get out of at the same time as hyping up AD as a win now asset is asinine.

They also had some of the worst contracts in the league. Luka as an asset is the rare asset that never gets traded that should easily net valuable players AND picks unless it was a Giannis type trade. And the alternative option of keeping your all world guard isn’t a bad fall back. Let’s not pretend like they HAD to trade Luka

Defending? No. I said in this thread it was suboptimal.
Explaining to counter the prisoner of the moment takes? Yes

Luka has an injury history, too.
But the larger point is that AD has value. People are just bringing up picks like AD has no value, when he's worth multiple 1sts himself still.

Bridges? What?

I never said that.
But, as I said in the other thread, this playoff run shot his value way up. Last offseason the rumblings about him started and his value was declining from where we saw him, for the reasons DAL just traded him. That magical run in the playoffs kind of made people forget all of that chatter. It apparently was not forgotten in DAL while he was out long-term again.

That's fine but not getting Dalton and reeves plus a few more picks is criminal and honestly is so bad it reeks of collusion

I hate AD’s bitch arse as much as any NOLA fan. Unfortunately, that bastard is a complete game changer on BOTH ends of the floor. He’s playing more and when I watch them he is always the best player on the floor. I don’t like either player or team so could really GAF but if Davis can stay relatively healthy this trade isn’t as crazy as it seems.

Reeves wasn't an option. He makes too much.
I don't know if Knecht is what they're trying to do in DAL

When did Zion average 34/9/9 for a season? Dude, your stance on this has destroyed your credibility….just an awful, awful trade for the Mavericks.

Plus you have Kid as the sixth man who can eat up a lot of minutes, especially with Play’s tendency to get in foul trouble.
