I believe a ref earlier in the thread said the ref could in fact because they have control of the situation. I could be mistaken

The real question that this brings up is....Should refs be allowed to carry guns? discuss

For what? To protect himself against the cop? The ref didn't have an altercation with the fans. Just telling a cop to back one area up by the corner of the endzone.

They should all have grenades.

Toss them only when cops commit personal fouls.

so telling a cop to do a job he is getting paid to do gets you arrested. Many cops are weak minded, with a big ego.

So if the head ref ejected the cop from the game, is said cop now technically trespassing?

I guess the question comes down to can the ref throw the cop out the game. If so how can the cop arrest the ref when he is the one not listening to the ejection?

The Referee has complete authority for the administration of the game itself. The Game Admin, usually the AD, has the responsibility and authority concerning facilities.

If there is a security concern with the crowd and it can't be resolved, the WH should stop the game and talk to the GA. If the GA doesn't resolve the issue, the WH suspends the game. Either it gets fixed or everyone goes home. It's his call

Hopefully it doesn't get that far, but those are the procedures.

At no time should any official argue with a cop or a fan or a volunteer. The officials control whether the game will be played so simply stop it until the problem is solved.

There's a lot more info we don't know: What was actually said and what led up to the confrontation.

You can bet the LHSAA will hold a hearing and it will not go well for those who contributed to the fiasco.

When I was reffing basketball we had a similar situation with home security. A cop was standing on the baseline cheering and bitching about calls. The crew chief found the AD, told her the game was suspended until the cop was corrected or replaced. The AD talked to the cop and the cop went outside. Play continued

After the game the cop was our escort to our car and he apologized for his behavior. Turns out his little brother was a player and he got caught up in the emotion

Apparently not a lot for an intimidation charge.

Apparently not a lot is required. This can't be serious.

All true. The referee only needs to speak to one person...the principal/game administrator.

As far as action by the LHSAA, they have no authority over the police...only the schools and officials. I wouldn't be surprised if the host school gets hit with a heavy fine. The referee will be admonished to only communicate with the game administrator.

I also wouldn't be surprised if the host school is unable to get officials for the next home game. The officials' association will likely band together and refuse to send anyone. The state may have to assign officials from outside the area.

Another interesting question would be, is there grounds for a lawsuit against the police by the referees, the referees association, or the LHSSA?

People not involved in the game need to get in the stands where they belong... Maybe st. Pauls should get the parkway punishment...

It sounds to me that the best solution would have been for the cop and ref to go to the licker room, dropped their pants and compared the length of their cocks. The winner could go out pumping his arms, chanting "I have the biggest dick". While the loser could sulk off.

Basically it was a dick measuring contest that led to an arrest.
