Have you ever tried to hit a 90 mph fastball?

I don't know how they, baseball players, do it.

The ball is literally on top of you instantly. I couldn't even get the bat around.

It's fricking nuts.

I formally apologize to anyone I've ever yelled at for swinging at bad pitches.

Yes, it isn't fun nor is it easy even if you know it's coming

You hit this one on the head (pardon the pun)

They’re baseball players. You’re not. They train for this shite, everyday. They know what the pitchers they face throw

It’s pure reflex. The more such pitches you see, the slower they get in your mind. You learn to conquer your fear

Now the curveball, learning to sit back on off speed, that separates the men from the boys

Just about every hitter can gear up for the fastball. It's the offspeed pitches when you are looking fastball that make you look foolish.

Disagree that it’s not fun. It was always fun to get up for those small handful of games in HS where you were facing a kid that threw really hard or was considered a legitimate college prospect. That’s the fun of competing.

Getting hit by one? Definitely not fun

Dude...I played sports my whole life. Football, Basketball and tennis. So I have tremendous hand-eye coordination.

I guess it's just humbling..

Competing is fun, actually hitting it is not... especially when you are fairly young. I had one hit off the handle and stung like a mother once.... now when you hit one square, yes fun....

There was a difference hearing, "this guy throws 75-80" vs "this guy touches 90+"

I have my 12 year old braxxtynn throw me 90 mph heat mixed in with a wicked slider once in a while. The private coach and Tommy John surgery are paying off.

I distinctly remember being able to hear the seams the first time I faced a guy throwing 90 plus.

Yes. But the higher the level, the easier it is to hit. Your anxiety is high in some backwoods town and a redneck is throwing 90 with no control.

90 ain’t that bad. It’s the movement that matters

Thanks for clarifying. Thought you were talking about soccer players

Me and some friends used to hit 90 off a machine. It wasn’t hard to make contact and get some rips, but we had to start our swing way early. If we faced someone that had movement and off speed, we were done.

I mean, 90 MPH in the same location over and over was manageable.

Yup. I knew I could get on base.

If I got walked. Otherwise, nope. But, that’s to be expected, I wasn’t good.

may or may have but that's nothing to brag about on the more sports board.

instead, one should take pride in always taking an opposite take at all costs.

or just being a lame arse NBA fan.

God bless you all.

I've hit in a 95 mph batting cage after daydrinking. Smacked the shite out of one after 9 bad whiffs and had sore obliques for a week.

Faced a few guys in the New Orleans area who threw 90+. Had no issue making contact with it.

I faced a guy in high school in the allstar game that threw 96. Pretty sure he was from deridder and signed with the Mets.

Correction- he signed with Detroit tigers.
