re: Have fans of a school ever been able to do what Tennessee did?

Bradley denying it doesn't mean much considering that if it were true, Bradley had huge incentive to deny it as his only other option would be to basically admit he was complicit as well.
And McQuery had huge incentive to throw everyone else under the bus because McQuery had been singled out as the scumbag who didn't do anything as an assistant coach.
It was his testimony and claims and he was being villified for just running to his coach and being wishy-washy about what he saw and not calling the cops.
Nobody knows what Bradley or Schiano did or didn't do - but McQuery is not a reliable source. Sharpening your pitchfork off this flake's hearsay in ONE depo...is really reaching.
But...I guess everyone associated with that program will forever have that stench even if they were just a player or just a coach not connected to Sandusky in a nefarious way beyond being in the same program.

Michigan State was going to change their logo to a different Spartan helmet shape that some idiot at Nike came up with until the fans found the trademark request and went nuts.

It happened when Arizona State briefly hired June Jones away from SMU.
quote:
The reaction was quick, widespread, and intense when word broke Wednesday morning that the Arizona State Sun Devils had hired their new head football coach. It would be June Jones, a former NFL quarterback and head coach who built the Hawaii program into one of the nation’s most exciting teams before moving on to SMU. On social media, ASU fans railed the selection with a passionate, negative response.
In the next couple of hours, over 100 fans voiced their opinion on the imminent hiring on Arizona Sports 620’s Facebook page.
Judging from the level of vitriol in said posts, you would think ASU was on the verge of hiring Jerry Sandusky.
Hours after that, word again trickled out that ASU had broken off talks with Jones, and university chief operating officer Steve Patterson told a Texas television station that June Jones would not be the coach at Arizona State.
Several factors in this decision have been cited, including fan and booster backlash and “background issues” with the candidate.

SMU coach June Jones had accepted an offer to coach Arizona State and minor contract points were being ironed out, a source said, when his representatives today received a call saying the offer had been pulled.
The source said Arizona State's explanation was that "it took too long" and the school president was moving on.
"We had accepted the deal," the source said. "I've never seen anything like this."
Arizona State had no comment, but chief operating officer Steve Patterson told Houston TV station KRIV that Jones would not be the Sun Devils' coach and that the process continues.
One source said negative reaction from fans and boosters to the selection of Jones prompted the reversal. Arizona State has now negotiated with and ended negotiations with two candidates, including Houston's Kevin Sumlin.

Today has been an embarrassment to everyone associated with Arizona State University athletics. First, we were about to hire June Jones away from SMU. Then, after boosters got wind of the development, their outrage spurred a change of course once again for the beleaguered search committee.

Missouri tried, when Alden hired Frank Haith, after low balling everyone at the Final Four conference, Missouri fans all called their BOC to stop the hire. BOC were forced to have an emergency meeting, but a virtually all Liberal BOC weren't going to keep a brother down, and went through with the hiring regardless of how bad it was.
With Schiano, they could get away with it. If it was Charlie Strong and fans did the same, they would be branded as racists by Liberal media. It is what it is. And other coaches would use it during recruiting, would be a hot mess.

Still not the same. O'Leary wasn't chased off by fans, and the reason he was forced to resign was lies discovered after he was hired.
Tennessee knew Schiano was at Penn State, and reportedly knew about what Sandusky was doing.
I guess Ohio State has no problem with the guy as a coordinator, but God forbid a school hire him as HC. Wonder if UT had gone with a different HC, and that HC wanted to bring in Schiano as DC, if there would be this much uproar?

It only happened because of the Penn St connection.
They could’ve weathered the storm if the fans just thought he was a bad coach for no real reason.
Oh don't kid yourself, they thought they could do better. They used the whole moral outrage over the Penn State situation as a reason but the truth is they just think they deserve a Gruden-type hire. Good luck getting anybody now.

This had nothing to do with Sandusky and everything to do with these entitled little shits not getting Gruden. Faux moral outrage.
I go with 80% fake outrage, 20% not Gruden. The fact he was associated with Penn State and Paterno gave the fans an easy out for their outrage.
And fanbases now know that social media outrage can cause coaching changes, will see how this works going forward.

I've been flipping on this from the get-go.
1) Initially thought Vols were doing the right thing and said "go get 'em." But, I didn't know all the facts.
2) Then, I felt it was a twitter mob hit job.
3) Now, I'm back to thinking it's one of those things where Schiano knew what's up. And that's OK to spike him just on that. But, UT is using that as an excuse to discard a guy they just think is a subpar candidate.

I think Volstwitter played a big role in this. But when a number of local companies & the governor of Tenn step in. You've got to ditch the Schiano as HC move. It's a bad look.

Why would he pick schiano and not some guy he coached with and hated to throw under the bus? Also of note Schiano also got the rare G.A. to full time assistant coach promotion that McQuery got and his was in 1991 when Penn State was still a good program. I wonder what unique qualification those 2 had to get that promotion.

I remember Auburn fans booing Chizik at the airport or something like that.

Not sure how much it means, but this didn't just happen yesterday. Vol twitter and message boards were very much heated since Thanksgiving about the potential hiring of Schiano. It was very much centered around the PSU scandal. Tons of fans that were saying anyone but Schiano based on the McQ allegation. There were plenty of us that tried to calm the flames, but our fanbase has a very large contingent of stupid and loud and we were basically shouted down.
Currie had to have known the backlash. Someone in the AD had to have seen something. He would have to have been blind or stupid not to see that this hire would not fare well right now. He also didn't have the support of half of the top donors, who were basically completely left out of the search in favor of the Haslams.

What happened was pretty ridiculous.
Is every single coach that was at Penn St while Sandusky was there never allowed to have the job they want again?
This new thing where everyone is automatically guilty and therefore must be destroyed needs to stop.

In another story, Twitter played a role in Art Briles not getting the OC job in the CFL.

Kevin Wilson would be a good hire but I know Urban requires his assts to stick around for 2 years, so he's not an option until after next season.

Because this information came to light during McQueary's testimony during HIS civil suit against Penn St.
McQueary is a better whistleblower if Penn St. personnel knew, did nothing, and then retaliated against him when he blew the whistle.

LSU had something close to this last year with Les Miles. It 's almost unheard of to fire a coach with a winning record 1/4 into the season
