ou mean way, way tougher to get in and make the championship run to begin with?

I think the tourney was only 8 teams back then.

Could Duke have run the gauntlet of Arizona then Kentucky and then Wisconsin?
Doubtful.
That's what won it for them.
And yes he's a great coach.

Probably on the bottom end of his final four teams, but a weak year and good coaching prevailed.
I mean only because the 91 92 and 01 teams were so stacked.
This Duke team is awesome and would be good enough to win it in a lot of other years. Put this team in the 2010, 2011 or 2014 bracket and they win it all.
They would have probably lost to Kentucky, but that doesn't mean they aren't very good.

Just curious, how many of these have you watched live?

Greatest irony of any coach to ever live. Comes into the ACC whining and complaining about all the unfair calls UNC gets only to be given multiple championships at the assist of refs years later.

What Coach K has to do to win in this age with the one and dones is far more impressive IMO.

alhoun was the best at spotting gems that everyone overlooked. He had so many studs that weren't top 10-20 recruits.
Coach K has rarely had a true under the radar star. The closest we come is Laettner as a top 25ish guy becoming a legend. Brand and Winslow exceed everyone's expectations as well but were blue-chippers all the way.
K has had the following NCAA All Americans that were not McDonald's All Americans
Alarie
McCloud
Carrawell
Curry
Correspondingly, Calhoun has
Napier
Thabeet
Okafur
Allen
I guess you could dock McCloud and Curry for being transfers and you could dock Napier for being an NCAA all american after Calhoun left. Nevertheless, it looks like both coaches should get some credit here.

Coach K's record of 10-1 all time vs Izzo does nothing to prove your point.

why?
K has consistently beat Izzo for over a decade.
eta I actually know why. You're a standard duke hater. Which is fine. But don't be a tard.

Hats off to Coach K and Duke for their run to the title.
I'm still in complete disbelief what happened last night. A Wisconsin team so well known for being excellent closers completely fell apart after going up 48-39.
I will never forget the feeling of being slumped in my seat, looking up, seeing the confetti fall, the Duke players celebrating, the Duke fans going nuts, fireworks going off. It was sickening.
That being said, I am so incredibly fortunate to have witnessed this two-year ride with Wisconsin. Reaching back-to-back Final Fours is difficult. Doing it when you're not a blue blood is downright impressive. The heartbreak around Madison is real. The love that everyone is showing this team, though, is real, too. These last two years (and more specifically this year) will be remembered for a long time in Madison. This group will never be forgotten and I hope like hell we retire Frank's number. Not only did he sweep every award, but he epitomizes Wisconsin's developmental program and was instrumental in putting Wisconsin basketball into the conversation with the elite.

Remember that Coach K went to five F4 before taking home a championship. It's a tough hurdle to climb. AT least your team was part of two great F4. The game last night was highly entertaining.
