Rare group of NBA players getting money up front

Klutch hooked their rookies up

quote:

Over the past decade that changed. Now the standard contract now calls for players to get paid over 12 months, giving them cash flow all year long.

This also means the vast majority of NBA players have yet to get most of their pay for this year, which will get interesting as the owners and players union start discussing the “Force Majeure” clause in the CBA to take some of the players’ salaries because of canceled games.

quote:

“According to the report, less than 20 players leaguewide will have received 90% of their salary on April 1 because they negotiated to have the maximum advancement of salary on a six-month payment schedule. Nine of those players are represented by Rich Paul of the Klutch Sports Group, including rookies Darius Garland and Darius Bazley.”

Draymond Green makes 10 when his extension kicks in next season.

HoopsHype has him ranked 3rd. LINK

Paul is known best for representing LeBron James, the NBA’s biggest star; other big-name clients in 2019 include Anthony Davis, John Wall and Tristan Thompson.

I have a hard time believing a guy that was selling jerseys out of the trunk of his car is a master negotiator of any sort.

Well I don't think anyone has ever accused you of being open-minded.

Why? Not everybody gets an easy, typical path. The dude showed hustle and made a connection with LeBron James.

The unforeseen circumstances that brought this to light make him seem smarter than he is. That was most certainly luck and not some stroke of genius.

I mean he seems to get 'Lucky' a lot. He's not a genius but maybe he's smarter than people give him credit for

He was smart enough to be well liked by LeBron, his biggest qualification to run Klutch.

Lebron is a high iq guy. Hiring a guy like rich when every Tom Dick and harry was trying to latch themselves onto him is a sign of high business acumen by lebron.

I mean what really 'qualifies' someone to be an agent? Its a business where 95% of the skill you need is people skills. Would rich Paul be doing significantly better with a degree or something? I doubt it.

Leon Rose is the guy who paved the way for Paul. Of course, Lebron was his first big name, and obviously the biggest but he learned how to be an agent from one of the best agents.

Plus LeBron is a guy who really tries to maximize his influence across different opportunities. If he didn't feel as though RP was a decent agent, I'm sure he would get a new one.

I think I’d stick to judging him on what he’s actually done within the profession instead of what he did 20+ years ago before becoming an agent but what do I know
