It doesn't count if you don't have a skyhook.

I feel like knee pads and rec specs are prerequisites for the sky hook. I've got like 15 years before I add those to the repertoire.

Don't forget a headband. Not the cool kind, the thin kind that used to be white.

I completely agree with this. My son plays on a 7th grade team. He can shoot, and like most, think Steph is awesome. Steph is awesome, but last night the team was playing a scrimmage and 3 straight possessions kids had breaks and no one between them and the basket. Each time the kid stopped and jacked up a 3 when it would have been a relatively easy layup, my kid included.
Both coaches immediately stopped practice and made them run full court break layup drills until they all had hands on hips and were bent over at the waist. Then they restarted the scrimmage. Not another break 3 was taken and both teams scored twice as many points as before.
It's insane what watching these guys in the NBA has done for fundamental basketball. Another aspect is many youth coaches are coming up not knowing the fundamentals either. So jacking up a fast break 3 is totally acceptable to them.

I'm slow and unathletic. I've been jacking threes in pick up games since these dweebs were a glimmer in their father's eye.

Three point efficiency and metrics only work if you can actually shoot.

I love the three-point shot, and I had a strap growing up, but I get highly annoyed with the constant chucking. I hate playing 1/2 because it over-values the three-point shot. Of course, many of us in pickup suck so bad that playing 1/2 to 15 takes 30 minutes. Most shots are either a horrible drive or a contested 28 footer that has no chance of going in. I'm not great but I don't suck either. Being short and somewhat slow (especially now), I have to have a decent shot, or I'm screwed.

I teach young players the lost art of the box-out, then punish them with solid screens.
