my point is that OKC did well in the draft when they landed Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka, and Harden & now they get punished because of how much the luxury tax would go up on them if all were kept

owners can't see the forest for the trees

Of course the could have.

how? they could only re-sign him b/c he had his bird's rights. they had to trade for him to get those rights

So is kwame brown. He made 6 million last year.

Because rebuilding teams are hotspots for free agents and the ones they do sign never end up being overpaid.

If they wanted to build a middling and grossly overpaid team with no future then yes trading a top 10 pick for Gerald Wallace is a great move, especially considering he had no obligation to stay there and could have walked. They had plenty of cap space to work with to sign Gerald Wallace if they like declining SFs so much.

Anyway I'm going to sleep but enjoyed the discussion,

mchale likes the pick and roll. harden and lin are 2 pick and roll point guards, essentially

seriously if montejunas, jones, OR white develop into a good offensive 4 (i think the best would be montejunas turning into a bargnani/dirk and jones turns into a super versatile odom-like sub) to pair with asik, they have a good front and back court

and they have max money to target a potential free agent. imagine if they got a perimeter defensive stud/versatile offensive player like iggy. 3 ball handlers/drivers. 3 shooters (if montejunas develops). a perimeter stopper and a rim stopper. that's how you build a team to win in the NBA today

it's going to happen eventually

many of the new rules implemented to help the small market teams will destroy their ability to compete

also, a reasonable solution likely never will be developed until the concept of the "max" salary is abandoned

I'm still in shock this morning that the thunder did this so close to the season opener. They're a very fun to team to watch so it sucks they couldn't come to an agreement.

On another note do the lakers now have a cakewalk to the NBA finals?

i don't see what the lakers did to really improve against the thunder

perkins is actually useful against dwight howard

nash is worse than even sessions on the perimeter. they're not going to be able to stop westbrook still

they still lack a perimeter defender to deal with durant

the lakers improved, but it won't be a "cake walk"

yeah right, the thunder still has KD, Westbrook and Ibaka, if Martin stay's healthy, there won't be a huge drop off, not to mention Maynor is back. I don't see this as a huge problem for the Thunder.

Yep. That Hollinger article you quoted was spot on.

This and legit revenue sharing would cure many of the competitive balance issues that they claimed were the reason for the last lockout

revenue sharing still won't work

the secondary/non-NBA benefits of playing in a big market will always exist, and the NBA can't do anything about that

also secondary media rights are a huge advantage of big market teams. the knicks have ungodly money b/c their owner owns the network that owns their local rights, and he makes piles from this

Not many teams will get this local deal that the Lakers got

non-NFL sports will always have trouble with evenly distributed revenue b/c there just isn't a big enough pie league-wide to divide up. it's easy in the NFL when they make so much goddamn money from their league-wide tv deals. it's a lot harder when these deals aren't possible (like the NBA and MLB)

he's like monta ellis. a guy who shouldn't be starting but can be a GREAT bench scoring option

both just don't really work in a normal offense, but if you have a second unit that needs them to dominate the ball and score/pass, they can do it. kmart should do fine off the bench

hopefully he'll be able to save his glass body

martin is the type to score 14 in a qtr, but give up 16. Truly allergic to defense

1. harden isn't a good defender, either

2. martin actually was competent last year on defense, surprisingly

people forget that OKC has 2 offensive options in westbrook/durant, and then a bunch of defensive players until that 2nd unit comes in. a pure scorer is absolutely necessary or they suck fricking dick
