I think it is 100% this. Like I said, look at almost every other state besides us. The privates split because they couldnt stay within 100 of the publics. Here in Tn, the privates would literally get injured by the public schools

Easy fix, wipe out your scholarship program or let public school kids go to any public school they want. How stupid can you idiots be? The best?
Oh! lets see....Ok Mr. Public school you get all the kids in a two block radius and mr. Private school you get all the kids in the city...Hmm now lets play and see who's best..What an idiot!

I think you are wrong about Curtis. I actually think everyone is wrong about how Curtis wins. Everyone throws the recruiting blah blah blah, but answer me this, how many true studs does Curtis usually have? That isnt why they win.

You don't really believe that do you? Here's a comparison for you.

D1 players the past 5 years

John Curtis - 21
Destrehan - 12
West Monroe - 11

That makes perfect sense right? Curtis is a 10th the size of Destrehan & West Monroe (2 of the most traditionally talented public powerhouses) and it has double the amount of division 1 players.

You can say oh but JT Curtis is a great coach that developed all that talent. Yeah right! I guess Shows & Robichaux were half as good as JT as developing talent? I know when all those SL kids went to Curtis they were already the best players in SL's program, sure Curtis made them better but they would have been college players anywhere. I know when Evan Ingram transferred from HLB that he was HL's best player already.

I have a question about the teams that play up in classification for the playoffs. Why don't they make Curtis play in a Select Division 1 district the whole season? Instead they play St. Charles Catholic, Lusher, De La Salle & McMain for district games.

As someone who went to a private school that majorly sucked at sports that typically excel with lower income demographic players, I just want to tell all these whiney public school people to please STFU.

Every time we would have a player who was halfway decent it would be "yall recruit, yall recruit!!!" yea, we recruit to go 6-4 and lost in the irst rnd of playoffs while the nearby public school does better year in and out. alright man.

Agreed. I think they would be shocked to know the whole free thing is such bullshite. Like I said, it happens for maybe 1 or 2 kids. Let me tell you, the church just loves giving shite away for free

All this jackass keeps throwing out is about John Curtis. There are far more teams than John Curtis and Evangel out there. Facts are that the NOLA catholic league do not give out many athletic scholarships, if any. If a player meets the acceptance criteria, a financial hardship scholarship may be extended, once they are admitted.

Recruiting? Are you fricking kidding me? BM and Jesuit do not recruit for athletics. They may have at one time tried to provide a divers student body, but that is no longer a problem.

Excuses, excuses.

So...your singular example of a private school you went to that was mediocre at sports and did not recruit invalidates anyone's argument that some private schools are operating within the letter of the rules but not the spirit of the rules?

Maybe your school operated the correct way and that is exactly why it did not experience the winning ways of other private schools...or to use the common reason, (which I don't believe), the reason was because you went to a shitty private school with poor teachers and academics and that is why good football players did not enroll.

Below are two links, for anyone interested, about the growing discord in Alabama about the very thing we are talking about.

Correct.

Private schools dominate the sports other than Football and Basketball. Does anyone really believe BM recruits wrestlers? Jesuit recruits swimmers?

So what's the reason for private school domination in these sports?

Nope. Only four more teams get a trophy.

I would, however, like to see the classes pared down. Publics go to four classes while the privates go to three classes. Won't happen though.

The privates get to draw kids from anywhere they can. I remember watching a game on ESPN of a certain team from the NOLA area. They were bragging how this team had kids from SEVEN surronding parish's.

The Magnets get to draw kids parishwide.

Most of the publics are restricted to their respective attendance zones.

Ironic:

I just received a call from a group of former coaches/friends about putting together a presentation about this very topic.

Anybody have any relevant info/links I should look at on the Louisiana model?

FYI:
1) Alabama was first state to implement a multiplier for private schools (1.35 per student since the data showed a 35% increased participation rate in privates)
2) Georgia followed the Alabama model but went with a 1.5 multiplier. However, they split 8 years later due to the fact multipliers had no effect.
3) Tennessee split based on schools giving financial aid to students. However, 21 private schools remained in Division I (with public schools). Current debate in Tennessee is to split completely...if a school charges tuition they would be forced to Division II

Interesting to see how states deal with the same issue.

Is Byrd a "true" magnet school? Like BR High?

Or is it a school with an optional magnet program? Like scottlandville and McKinley?
