Gore was a "compiler" but I'm ok with those guys getting in. It doesn't feel right having someone so high in the record books being denied just because he lacked the wow factor or wasn't on posters in kid's bedrooms.
Plus he put up all those counting stats after blowing out both knees. That's really rare for a RB. Durability has to count for something, especially in a sport as physical as the NFL.

Rickey Watters was as every bit as good as Roger Craig and certainly is a better all-around back than Gore
Look at Watters 10 years compared to Gore’s first 10 years. Watters had 935 more total yards but he also had 309 more touches as well.

He also had to deal with the Nolan/Singletary/Tomsula shitshow his first 6 seasons as well. I really wonder how much better Alex Smith and Gore would have turned out if the Niners FO had put competent coaches in place before they got there but it’s whatever.

Very fair point.
I have realized over the years how good Watters was I mean he was a super dual threat.
Maybe he was just before his time.
In my opinion, I'm looking for all around performance when selecting Hall of Famers. But I'm as amateur as they come. The fact that Watters hasn't sniffed any love is a joke to me.
Helluva player.

I also believe rivers will get in and also should.
I don’t think he will because I think the HOF thinks accolades still matter for QBs. He doesn’t have any all-pros (even 2nd team), MVPs, or SBs. Every single modern era QB in the HOF has at least one of those except for Warren Moon who has historical precedence (much of his bio on the HOF site is about that).
And sometimes even accolades aren’t enough. Look at a guy like Ken Anderson for example. Has an MVP, played in a SB, and finished his career top 10 all time in passing yards yet has not made the HOF( Btw eerily similar career to Matt Ryan). Rivers has none of that.
I’m not going to say he’s for sure never going to make the HOF, but I do think it’s very unlikely. I don’t think they care about the stats argument all that much given almost all the all time leaders in yards and TDs are modern QBs. Even though he is better compared to Eli, they go based on what accolades were won not what could’ve been won.

Ryan, Ben and Rivers are all high on the "Pro Football Reference Hall of Fame Monitor" metric that estimates a player's chances of making the HOF. Russell is not far behind, and Matt Stafford is gaining ground. Of those, I think R. Wilson is the one who gets left out. He was on a 1st ballot trajectory until it all went downhill. One play may keep him out. Hand it to Lynch and it likely puts him over the top.
Gore is ranked very high in the RB metric playing 14 years like Emmitt Smith, just without the 3SBs, 4 all pros, etc.. He'll get in for very good and longevity.
The question mark is Antonio Brown, a no doubt 1st ballot short discussion. But.....his antics were worse than T.O. and others who were made to wait. I could see them punting on him for severe unprofessionalism.

I think their monitor is good but I think they really value volume stats for QBs which the HOF voters don’t seem to value on its own.
I’m just trying to predict what the HOF voters think and they give no love to QBs without accolades aside from Moon. ETA: Moon does have one 2nd team All-Pro
I personally think Rivers is better compared to Eli too. But it’s not like there aren’t plenty of things people disagree with the voters. There are guys in the HOF most people don’t think should be, there are guys who many think took too long to get in, there are guys who many think should be in but aren’t. Point is, the HOF voters disagree with everyone else all the time

Gore - eventually due to numbers accumulated and longevity
Porter - no. Weak career stats relative.
Harrison - maybe. Was defensive player of year. One of best ever plays in SB. Absolutely insane 5 year career peak.
Neal - no. Just stop.
Rivers/Wilson/Ryan - these are tough. My vote would go to Wilson of the three. Brady, Brees, Manning Rogers stand head and shoulders above this era. Stafford likely gets in. Mahomes and Allen are the next gen QB HOF along with Hurts and Lamar depending on longevity. I predict Russell Wilson and Matt Ryan do get in. Both Matt Ryan and Wilson are probably each one play in the a Super Bowl away from being slam dunk HOFers. Ryan absolutely gets in with a ring and Wilson gets in as a back to back winner.

Will be interesting to see what voters do with Wilson, Hurts, Lamar. All time great rushing QBs with incredible winning percentages. At some point you need to give more slack to the Wilson’s and Cam Newton’s of the world for flaming out earlier. They each have good to great career rushing totals for a running back.

Put down the Internet gramps
The thing about Frank Gore is he put up those stats well into a pass-first era…

My thought will always be the same about any HOF player.
If you have to THINK about whether player X is a HOF......he isnt.
You KNOW a HOF player and you dont have to debate it or even think about it.

Porter not getting in. Harrison is iffy too. Idk that Wilson will get in based on his last few years it will be a toss up. Neal no chance. Rest of the guys are pretty much locks I’d say.

He, Tony Richardson, and Larry Centers are three of the greatest FBs of all time. They deserve to be recognized. If Devin Hester can be in the HOF as a returner (and rightfully so), then they need to be inducted as well.

Cause that's not much he will get passed every year.

Former players respect the hell out of Lorenzo Neal

Probably not but he can’t control what happens after he retires.

Gore had over 9k yards from scrimmage and almost 40 tds AFTER he turned 30 when most RBs are retired or retiring at that age. He’s 4th all-time in NFL history in yards from scrimmage.
quote:1 more than Gore
Craig had two great seasons
Gore deserves a lifetime achievement award, but the Hall is for the best who ever played. You can’t be that far behind the peers of your era and have a legitimate argument

A player that should be in the HOF is Darren Woodson. Dallas' all time leading tackler with 1,350 career tackles. Three time Super Bowl champion, three time first team All Pro and five Pro Bowls.
He often covered the slot receivers and he was a hard hitter. If you watched him play back in the 90's you know that he was a great player. A complete winner.
