That is crazy to imagine East Coast teams in the Pac 12, but I guess anything is possible. What East Coast teams could you see jumping to the Pac 12? Connecticut? Boston College?

I think it depends on what level of success Netflix/Amazon has prior to going east. I would think if they found a way to rope together Texas and California (USC, UCLA) than some ACC teams would be fair game for this mega conference. You would also figure WVU is a slam dunk.

The ACC makes decent money but not SEC or B1G money. Some of their top brands could be open to poaching, especially if Netflix/Amazon doesn’t value basketball that much. But ESPN would fight to keep enough of the ACC intact to move forward, that conference is important to them for many reasons.

Isn’t Texas tied to their Longhorn Network until 2030 or something?

It’s been a while since I read that contract, but I am pretty sure if Texas is independent it just gives ESPN the right to match any offer as part of the deal. So if someone like Netflix can outbid ESPN than they could take them as long as it’s a post-Big 12 Texas.

But the streaming services have not shown they can do live TV, much less sports.

You do realize that for the last couple of years they have shown NFL games live on Amazon?

Thanks for posting all that; plenty of great info.

ACC has proven resilient but that has more to do with basketball than football. ACC as a football conference is only viable for as long as Florida State/ Miami are in the conference. B1G being able to poach Maryland shows how vulnerable they are for the next wave of expansions/ realignment. It is obvious ACC needs Notre Dame; I'm just not sure in the future if Notre Dame necessarily needs them.

If a Netflix/ Amazon play is coming, it would likely be a USC/ UCLA, Texas, OK, Notre Dame, Fla. State/ Miami group. That solidifies an instant national audience.

It would, and it would be a legitimate enough group if Netflix made them break away from the Division 1 as part of the deal.

Netflix/Amazon have to be hoping that some of the other big changes facing the sport (paying players, access to playoffs, etc.) are worked out before they start throwing money around.

I would say the ACC is doing Great honestly.

I thought the ACC would be bad, the Pac 12 would be great, and Big XII would be meh.

In reality, the ACC is great, the Pac 12 is bad, and the Big XII is meh.

PAC 12 was pretty damn good there for a while. It's fallen off somewhat the last few years as Oregon has fallen from its perch, but it's still a solid, deep conference with a lot of competitive programs. It will never be a top dog conference as long as USC is flailing around doing whatever it is they're doing right now, but it's a good conference.

San antone ag

When I was a teen Arkansas was in the sw conf. They left that to go to sec. They don't want that again. They are just fine. Great school, great people. My favorite humans after Paducah, Murray, western ky.

You can make up all the fantasy CFB conferences you want but remember that those football teams are tied to athletic departments with a lot of non-revenue sports with real student-athletes. Conferences will remain somewhat contiguous for that reason.

The Big 12 is still teetering. Oklahoma is not happy being relegated to that second rate conference firmly behind the BIG, SEC, and ACC in quality.

The BIG has already sniffed around bidding for OU's Tier 3 rights to put on BTN. If that isn't a big indicator of what might happen woth OU I don't know what to tell you.

I'm guessing the BIG makes a move on Oklahoma and Kansas for their football and basketball properties, respectively.

Texas will go to the PAC or ACC, depends on what else shakes out. I am thinking ACC along with ND joining the ACC and the LHN getting repackaged or rolled into an ACC Network. ACC becomes real strong with those two additions.

The rest of the Big 12 schools should prepare to become a G level conference, adding some of the best of the AAC or MWC to survive. They will clearly be a top G conference but not a P4.

P4 conferences have their CCG become defacto National Quarterfinal games.

The politicians in Texas will never allow the other Texas B12 teams get demoted to JV status, some will be tied to a Texas move.
