Dude, the All Star Game is really just about being selected. They have fun for a weekend while catching their breath. Give the fans a show.
They only have 26 games left till the post season so why go all out?
Like someone earlier said, if semi close with 5 minutes left, they will play hard.

I'm a traditionalist I guess
I appreciate good defense. I think the shot clock should be 45 seconds like it used to be. Force teams to actually defend. Also offenses are much more creative with a longer shot clock.
All this Push to shorten the shot clock especially at the college level is stupid.

MLB all star game is different because actually playing defense in baseball requires a whole lot less physical exertion than in basketball or football

Its fun to watch. I can't dunk. Seems like NBA jam in real life. I love watching the dunks. Not like the game matter, nothing to brag about.
Sure as hell don't want Anthony Davis playing hard risking an injury in a game that don't mean shite. Especially when the Pels are trying to get the final playoff spot. I'm sure Cavaliers fans don't want LeBron playing all out, risking injury. Common sense. So just let them go to the whole and dunk.

The All Star game is what it is, but it's not because fans don't want to see competition and defense.
It's kind of crazy to me that some think that.
