This. Ur school was given the rights to use UL if they put at Lafayette behind it. You accepted those terms, then try to loophole saying the athletic program isnt the same? The athletic program is students from ULL. The football team is ULL. Dont try to make up some bs loophole and get mad when everyone else calls you out on it. It isnt LSU fans. Its everyone. You only direct ur arguments to LSU fans because u want to blame it on LSU fans being petty rather than the truth that you are ULL

Because it is in no way realistic, nobody feels like playing pretend and responding.

There is nothing wrong with the university's name as it is. Trying to force the "Louisiana" issue is an instance of the university attempting to manufacture an outward image that it wishes that it could have actually earned by now. ULL is being dishonest with itself and throwing tantrums when the rest of the world doesn't play along.

ULL: know your name, and know your place. Your name is just fine. Let it go. Nobody cares.

Obviously people care, with all these threads on multiple message boards.

It is in no way realistic? Why, because you don't want it to be? Anything is possible in the future.

Would some of you have a problem with another university in this state eventually reaching that status of being a peer of LSU? Is that a bad thing? (Doesn't have to be UL Lafayette) Just trying to spark a discussion.

Yes. I like dominating this state.

I imagine a really, really angry guy named Ance Doucet (pronounced with an A couyoun!) and his even angrier buddy Tee Leblanc reading this thread and calling ESPN and getting all agitated. "We are Louisiana and I axed you nicely tree times and I'm fixing to wreck yo arse"...

USL has the tiniest of the State penii.

Because the only way they got to be ULLwas if ULM agreed to take that name. If the state wanted a UL they wouldnt have made the stipulation that their had to be another UL* school, they would've just let someone be UL

An athletic peer?

Id say it would definitely be a bad thing for the state in general if it is at the expense of LSU. Would you really want to turn into Mississippi?

Academic/Athletic. Is the University of Mississippi hurting Mississippi State? Is Auburn holding Alabama back? Not rhetorical questions, I don't know the happenings of those states.

Care to stop the misdirection? My question pertained to any Louisiana university becoming a peer to LSU.

Besides the fact that ULL will never be anywhere close to any of those schools, yes they do hurt each other

it's a dumb question because that will never happen.

seriously. LSU is king and always will be king. the state government has ensured that several times over the past 100 years

I would be all for this, but like another poster said, this would require the closing of the unecessary 4 year institutions in Louisiana. I would be all for another institution that rivals LSU both athletically and academically, but the legislature won't let that happen.

The Cajuns intentions were bold and clear the first time they showed up to a LSU/ULL contest after the name change. It was a baseball game in Alex Box Stadium and these arseclowns showed up with mass produced, red and white "Beat State" signs.

Baers Foot is proving that point. They truly believe that in the future, they will be LSU's Alabama/Auburn, Florida/Florida State, Texas/Texas A&M.

Good post. If those decisions weren't made in the economic slump we went through/going through, I'd hate to see what it would take for those talks to ramp up.

They actually believe by, hating us, creating a "rivalry", naming themselves "Louisiana", will actually make us equals

If it doesnt matter what u wanna call ur athletic program, why don't u just remame it LAF

Because thats all everyone does at you every time you say the school and the athletic program dont need to go by the same name. UT is the flagship UT school. UTEP and UTSA cant get rid of their city in the name. If ULL was the flagahip and not equal to ULM you could be UL. But you have to have that approved through the state first, you cant just decide it for yourselves and start asking people to call you that
