One of the main reasons I quit. No one can actually be GOOD anymore. If you hit a shot whether in the gap or for a HR you obviously have a shaved bat. Last year in a Podunk tourney in Minden we hit 52 home runs in 3 games, 37 for outs. The wind was blowing out and they made us hit 44/525 Rocks. Everybody watching just kept saying, "Put those shaved bats up". Sad thing is we hit 3 with a wood Worth Toxic. Just had some college baseball players with no bat control and a ton of power.

Haven't read this thread because it is too long. I tried slow pitch after college but it was just not baseball. Then Senior League baseball arrived when I was about 35. Most fun I ever had. Real baseball played by real baseball rules. I had to quit at age 50 because I lost too much muscle memory throwing from 3B. Could still hit, though.

Sounds like fun, like i said earlier I'm just waiting to play in the 30+ league. Glad to hear someone had a good experience. How hard was it to get your timing back?

[quote]In 1956, on the campus of Louisiana State University, Bobby Spell of Crowley, Louisiana, was clocked pitching a softball underhanded by the US Army Radar, at 126 mph. This was verified by a feature story in Sports Illustrated, which can be found by contacting the publisher.Read more: What is the fastest pitch ever recorded in mens fastpitch [quote]

i have a blast playing and drinking beer with buddies
This. My days of playing baseball at a high level are over. Most adult baseball leagues are filled with 20-somethings just out of college. Drinking beer and getting out of the house is something to cause the seizure of a man card now? At least they are doing something.
ETA: I still play baseball, but it is getting harder and harder to keep up.

Considering girls don't even play slow pitch anymore, I think it's time for grown men who decide to play slow pitch needs to have their man card taken away immediately.
Just left a softball complex, 9 and 10 year girls were playing fast pitch, on the field right next to them, there were grown arse men playing slow pitch
If you gonna play, man up and fast pitch....or dare i say, just simply play baseball
Rant over
do you realize what an insecure tool you sound like?
its a friggin game people are playing for fun.
get over yourself dude.

You ever tried to hit a fastball at the age of 40? While I agree that slow pitch is kind of a joke competition wise it's still fun and it gets me out of the house.

1. Hitting...I went to a pitching machine place a few times just to get quicker but it really wasn't hard to adapt. A live pitcher is actually easier because you can time by his motions on the mound. The key was going to an eye doctor to get fitted with lenses that gave me 20/15 instead of 20/20. I could tell a fastball from a slider immediately. It was like hitting a beach ball. But I had to have the lenses re adjusted ever Spring.
2. Fielding.. I always had a good glove and fast reactions from playing 3B. But fly balls required a lot of practice. A pop up that you could catch in your pocket at 22 becomes an experience at 40 when you stare into the sky. We never practiced pop ups. Big mistake.
3. Throwing... This is where muscle memory failed me. I had to practice a lot and didn't have the time. When you have to think about throwing mechanics you're doomed. Ironically, it was the best phase of my game as a youth.
4. Running... This is the easy part. If you're in good shape you can steal on the catchers. But be sure to check out the infield. Some of that stuff is full of rocks and you don't want to go home with bleeding knees cause your wife will say "Grow up, stupid."

why get caught up in fast pitch. i rather play hard pitch baseball for competition and slow pitch softball for fun with friends.
