It's hard to debate this when I haven't seen Brooks Robinson play. He had impressive numbers though. It's also hard to debate it when I've seen Schmidt and the likes of Brett play, but at the end of their careers. The only guys that I've seen a full career from are Chipper and A-Rod. Otherwise, I'm just debating overall numbers, and if that's the case, then it's MJS, GB, BR, AR, and CJ.

Depends on how you define over rated. I

I just think Rose was a VERY important part of every team he played for and was the spark that kept the Big Red Machine going when they were so good. BTW Stats don't mean EVERYTHING. His leadership skills and overall way he played helped inspire his team. I mean A-ROD has some great stats but he is not close to the leader or play-by-example player Rose was.

Is Nolan Ryan overated????????????

Absolutely. He is a great pitcher, but is closer to #20 than #1. Sure, he had a ton of Ks, but he is also #1 in walks, was barely .500 W/L, and ranks like #244 alltime in ERA. You always know when people are overrating him too, because they'll be like "but he whipped Robin Ventura's arse".

AGREED. He was fun to watch cause he had the ability to do something SPECIAL every time he pitched, But he could also get ripped apart. Not many pitchers can say this.

Schmidt is the easy pick here. Maybe the easiest position to pick the greatest of all time.

I've never seen anyone rate Pete rose as a top 3 player of all time. I've always felt he was properly ranked.

Brooks d is of NO question. A GREAT GREAT player. But I have watched all three and the answer is Mike, George, and then Brooks. IF you just want to talk fielding??? The answer is Robinson by a landslide.People will bitch about this, But Brooks Robinson>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Ozzie Smith.DEAL WITH IT. I SAW IT HAPPEN.

People in this thread are underrating Schmidt's D. He was an 11 time Gold Glove winner, and easily the best defensive 3B of the last 30 years. And while you are talking about overrated players PJ, Ozzie is right up there with the best of them. Vizquel's glove>>>>>>than Ozzie's FACT!!!!!!

I AGREE. Thats why there is NO question here about who is the best 3b of all-time.

I think Clemente was/is actually a bit underrated. He still played in an era where blacks and latinos were rarely put on the pedestal.

He had some great years that go sort of unrecognized. His MVP year, he had a low in batting average for the previous 5 seasons. Granted, his power numbers were up.

But yes, due to his tragic death, I think people who don't know baseball all that well will overrate him. In the grand scheme of things, I think he should be rated higher.

Are you saying that Eric Chavez is a better defensive 3B than Schmidt? You mean the Eric Chavez who has all of 6 GGs (not that GG is the only standard of defensive excellence or anything). I don't see it.
