Great comeback and win for Texas, but this is who Ryan Day is...

He might just be the most overrated coach in all America. Had it not been for the expanded playoff in 2024, he likely would be part of the FOX broadcast team right now. That roster is filled to the brim with talent and showed out in the first half. However, the man went into a shell in the second half and played not to lose. You can't do that against a Top 5 team who is playing the game at home.

Feels like the damn Georgia game! Unreal!

You watch him during a game and he just looks visibly scared.

At some point the Ohio St. money people will tire of this and go get a real coach. A real coach with their resources is what could be scary for the rest of the country.

He has VASTLY superior talent to almost every team he ever plays against. In games where the talent level is somewhat even his record is...not as great as you'd expect. Not bad by any means, but he isn't one of the 2 or 3 best coaches in the country like the media has portrayed year in year over the last 5 years.

I don't think he played conservative. Jeremiah Smith just didn't catch the ball on 2 or 3 targets in the 4th quarter. Hitting one of those or the field goal wins the game. Credit to Texas for shutting him down.

He should have taken the points to go up 13-0 instead of going for it on 4th down in the 2nd qtr.
Sure, hindsight is 20/20, but Texas was doing nothing to that point. That finally gave them a spark to put a drive together and get on the board.
It felt like Day misread the flow of a game that his team was controlling.

You are absolutely right. Ive had problems with Ryan Day for several years because of exactly what you stated. Its cost us games numerous times and nearly cost us a few more. To be fair, I think Coach day is a good coach, just not an elite coach.

I don't think his team was able to take four quarters in the Texas heat. I run and man, thus summer has been brutal in Texas.

Coach born on 3rd base, elite job recruiting but when talent is equal he is a liability

At least he’s better than Big Game James.

I wouldn't say overrated. He's one of the better coaches in the sport. Who's much better? He has flaws, he plays not to lose too much. That has to change

frick that, Ryan Day spanked Sark a couple of times already. And Sark isn't the best coach, so for him to the get the Horns off the mat is a legit win. We're not accepting any excuses.
Take the loss, pussies

With Hartline gone, I wonder how much of a hit their WR machine will take.

Is this the same Ryan Day that beat Texas last September?
Is this the same Ryan Day that beat Texas in the Playoffs on his way to a National Championship?
Yeah, he sucks because Texas finally beat him by 1 at home in week 2 :lol

He’s 1-3 in his last four games - the one win coming against Ball State

He didn't. They passed the ball 15 times in the second half (actually 18, but I'm not counting their last drive where they had to pass) and ran the ball 10 times. And they got 4.6 ypc on those 10 runs.
Fact is, is that Texas tightened up defensively on big downs, and out executed the OSU offense. Pretty much the same with Texas O vs OSU D. OSU D got real tired by the fourth quarter.
