Phoenix wants front court help from everything I've read.

And LA doesn't have to rebuild like normal teams because of how big of a free agent destination they are, especially with the cap going up.

@SpearsNBAYahoo How many teams are on Dragic's short list for PHX? "It's a VERY short list," a source said. @WojYahooNBA reported LAL, NYK & MIA as on list.

Doubt it, he wants out of Phoenix because he wants to run a team. Harden runs the Rockets.

But I guarantee the Suns will be happy to talk to the Rockets because we have a lot to offer. And Dragic doesn't hate Houston. That's never been reported.

The Lakers are just intriguing to me. If the Suns send Dragic to them, maybe the Lakers play out of the bottom 5 and the Suns get the Lakers lottery pick this season (plus whatever they get in the trade). Kind of a gamble, but its a big bonus..

Lakers could go into next season with a big 3 of Dragic, Bryant and Love, plus whoever wants to join in..

Are they really a huge free agent destination anymore? It'll always be LA but that organization has taken a prestige hit these past couple of years.

They are 4 years minimum away from competing IMO. Dragic turns 29 in a couple of months. Sighing Isaiah Thomas would've made a lot more sense. He's younger, he wanted to play for them and the Lakers didn't even give him a look.

The Knicks are a head scratcher. Does he really want to run the Triangle? With Melo?

Kobe is not part of a big 3 at this point in his career.

@ESPNSteinLine If Dragic gets dealt this week, new team inherits Bird rights and will be able to offer five-year deal in July. If no trade materializes ...

If no trade materializes, Dragic would head to free agency seeking a four-year max from Lakers or Knicks that could reach $80 million range

This. The triangle offense doesn't even need a good point guard. See the Lakers and Bulls under Jackson.

Not enough cap space to bring Love on board if they trade for and re-sign Dragic. Plus, Love likely doesn't opt out this summer. If the cap will be $90M in 16/17, he can make about an extra $40M maxing out at that price instead of the $67M cap this summer.

Love's already said he isn't interested in signing with the Lakers.

So basically, Dragic wants to lose a lot.

I didn't hear about Love not wanting to play in LA. But if they waited until the end of FA to sign Dragic, they should have enough money to sign a max FA or pretty close. If they renounce J. Hill, even with their holds, they would have right around 20M in cap space..

Dragic also said he wants to go to a playoff team... which contradicts the Knicks, Lakers, etc.

I don't trust these kinds of reports because it's often agents or teams using the media for posturing or whatever.

It could be true, but I take it with a grain of salt.

That's true. They could have the money. But don't forget cap holds for all their UFAs, roster holds, and rookie salary if they keep the pick.

Also, Love said he wasn't opting out- I don't think he said he has no desire to ever play in LA. Here's one reason why he wouldn't opt out.

quote:

Kevin Love has been fully expected to exercise his player option and become a free agent in 2015. If he signs a max deal, it would amount to roughly $94 million over five years. But if he opts into his $16.7 million for next season, in 2016 he could potentially sign a five-year max worth $155 million with the Cavaliers (or whichever team holds his Bird rights). If he wanted to sign with a different team, the deal would be worth potentially $115 million over four years. That's a huge reason for Love to delay free agency a year and could be the motivation behind his comments earlier this season.

LA could potentially offer 2 or 3 max deals that summer depending on how they handle things now.

ETA: This logic could also apply to Dragic. Though, he's older and not as good as a guy like Love. I don't know if he would gamble on getting a max as a 30 yo.

seems like he'd rather go to glamour city, not that i can blame him. think about it-- if you worked in an industry in a foreign country-- say, germany-- would you want to play in Doozledorf bc some no-name franchise owns your rights, or would you rather play in a big, international city your friends back home have heard of? also, the NYK and LAL both have tons of cap space to get pppaaaiiiddddddd....
