i need to invest in a lob wedge. these shots are killing me as i usually line drive it and bounce it off the green.

This is for sure true. I'm a self taught golfer (well self taught from YouTube and swing books). So I've spent the last 4 years or so just turning my baseball swing into a golf swing; I'm finally at the point where I feel like when I step up with an iron I can catch it solid and get it around where I want it to go. So now when I go to the range I am starting to be able to work on those wedges from close range. Trying to go from just getting them on the green to getting them inside 10 ft
Took me 2 full years to get baseball out of my golf swing

I spent the better part of 3 years fighting the giant baseball swing slice. I learned why I slice, how to draw the ball ect... FINALLY got to where I can hit a nice draw, but I still wasn't very accurate. ~6 months ago I decided to stop trying to make the ball do anything and just play my natural swing. Now I play a slight fade on irons (which I learned is actually preferable on hard greens) and I can actually control it.
Brought my handicap index down to 9.6
Next step is the wedge game

Slicing off the tee was my biggest problem. I gradually fixed it myself and then took my first and only lesson at Jim Mclean's in fort worth and now I have a baby draw with my irons. I went from shooting int he 90's to the 80's overnight. Shot 79 at LSU the other day

Congrats, first time in the 70's is an awesome feeling. Lets you know there's a reason you've been working on the game so much

well that and the more you improve your game, the more beer you can drink on the course
I must admit, getting to the point where I beat my dad on a consistent basis feels good

If my dad beat me, I'd quit
Seriously, though, he's got talent. I just think he is a bigger head case than I am. Also, he never practices.

my dad's 4 some has there own score card and basically just play for money. They usually don't even keep true "scores" although they play the ball down and everything but once I got in the 80's he couldn't hang with me anymore. Of course, I also drive the ball 250-275 and he can barely break 225. Playing in north texas a lot the wind just kills his shots

Not only is the wind a killer here, the greens are all hard as hell. LA has a better climate for golf

I enjoy the wind. Being a Texas boy I just learned to deal with it. Have you ever played Waterchase?

No I live in Dallas. Been here since February. I've played Cedar Crest like 50 times. Played LB Houston before it closed and I've now played it 3-4 times since it opened back up.
I've played Tennison, FireWheel in Garland, and Prairie lakes in Grand Prairie.
The hard ground can be nice for that extra roll on drives. But tough around greens; ESPECIALLY the new greens at LB Houston, very hard to hold them

I haven't played any Dallas courses. If you're looking for more LA like conditions and have time to drive, try Waterchase by the stadium or Tierra Verde in south arlington. Definitely worth the drive

I'll have to check those out.
I play LB Houston bc it's close to my house and pretty cheap

Over the summer my dad and his group played at Cowboys. They sometimes run these deals where you can get a foursome on for 100 bucks
the perks of that course are incredible. I also had a friend in high school who worked as a grounds keeper at Dallas national. never played it but I heard it's one of the best in the state. Two of my best friends in high school were members at Colonial so we used to sneak on and play the back 9 all the time

Every time I drive by it I think how incredible it looks.
It's got something ridiculous like an $80,000 initiation fee...

Anything around 55-70 yards, I use my 58* wedge with a full swing.
Anything inside 50, I use a my 54* wedge which I have dialed in on those distances.

I used to struggle from those distances, until I discovered the clock drill. Since we don't have a clubs for distances like 30, 50, and 75yds, we have to improvise. The clock drill uses your left arm (if you're right-handed) as the hour hand on a clock. If your left arm is at the 11:00 position at the top of your full swing, than you can dial back distances by taking the club back to a point where your left arm reaches the 9:00 or 10:00 positions. If you can practice the 9,10, and 11:00 positions with all your wedges, it will give you about 6-9 yardages between 30-100yds that you'll be comfortable with. Good luck
