Inside 30 and you can ship/pitch, ect... Outside 70 (or wherever it may be for you) and it's a 3/4 full choke with the lob wedge. How do you deal with those shots in that awkward range though?
Obviously the best way is to not get into that range, but it's going to happen eventually.

Personally I have a shot in my arsenal that is a full swinging flop shot with my lob wedge, it goes ~50 yards and stops pretty much dead. The problem is it's hard to control and very easy to miss hit causing a hot line drive that flies the green. I usually opt for kind of a long pitch shot, where I carry the ball ~5-10 feet in front of the hole (if possible) and roll it up to it. Obviously sometimes I've gotta flop it or spin it depending on the lie, hole location, ect... But the long range pitch type shot is probably my favorite.
I've been working on a backspinning check up shot that I'm starting to get down, but I'm still inconsistent with it.

So how do you get up from your awkward distances, what are your tips/tricks for doing so?

Not a bad strategy and I end up doing that a lot when I'm under trees ad stuff. But I just don't have the feel on that shot to get it close consistently

I love that distance. Inside 30, choke down on the grip. Outside of 30.. PW, ball in back of the stace, find my target, visualize, grip it, rip it.

Don't think too much on those shots. Make'em happen.

It's all about touch and practice.

I take out the driver, hit it as hard as I can looking up to see the mighty blast.

The inevitable topping drives it straight into the ground and it goes the perfect distance.

I will add..

over my years of playing and practicing, the best way to learn feel is to try hitting 50-120 yard shots with several different clubs...try hitting it close with 7iron thru sand wedge...that is a good "feel" practice drill IMO

This is for sure true. I'm a self taught golfer (well self taught from YouTube and swing books). So I've spent the last 4 years or so just turning my baseball swing into a golf swing; I'm finally at the point where I feel like when I step up with an iron I can catch it solid and get it around where I want it to go. So now when I go to the range I am starting to be able to work on those wedges from close range. Trying to go from just getting them on the green to getting them inside 10 ft

i knock it back about 50 yards so i can hit a full sand wedge

in all seriousness, i just kinda to a touch shot with half or quarter swings of my sand wedge. you kinda learn through repetition how hard you have to swing and how far back you have to bring the club. watch some PGA tour golfers do it. it's all about touch, just like learning how to lob a football a certain distance.

40 yard in I use my 58 degree, from 40-100 I use my 52. Practice and controlling your swing are more important than what actual degree club you use.

I just figured out how far I hit a full choked SW, LW, and PW with a 3/4 swing and full swing, it should help.
Lucky for me I hit a choked down 56 degree almost exactly 100 yardsso it's easy to figure out from there

Depends on the situation. If I can run it up there I will use my pitching wedge. If not Ill use a sandwedge back in my stance and put a lot of spin on it.

knock down PW. feet close together, hands in front to de-loft the club. I can easily punch it 100 yds this way and the ball never gets more than 20ft in the air.

Why use a LW? the shortest distance b/t two points is a straight line....kepp it low

I use a 9 iron. This usually results in my getting within 10 feet of the green. Then I use a putter.

For consistency purposes, I would say pick one club.

To maximize you ability, learn to play a variety of different shots (requires more practice obviously) If you don't have the time to practice, I would limit the variety of shots you try to play.

i need to invest in a lob wedge. these shots are killing me as i usually line drive it and bounce it off the green.
