To preserve a 2-point lead with 1:15 left in a must-win Game 4 of the Finals against a big man who has been outstanding all playoffs:

Video

I think it deserves a place along with LeBron’s block on Iggy, Prince’s chasedown on Reggie Miller or Bam Adebayo’s block last year as one of the best playoff blocks of all time.

Fantastic feat but not even on the same planet as the others.

Ayton wouldn’t have scored if after the pass he was the only player on the court.

Giannis hasn’t touched the ball yet and I’m fairly certain Ayton was actually losing what little possession he had of the ball.

Not on the same planet as blocking A cripple

—————

Just couldn't take off ... as far as sprinting up the floor,” Iguodala explained. “And then going up for rebounds was really tough. I had a position to get a few, but had to wait until it came to you,

——————

this is the guy bron blocked. Couldn’t run at anything close to his max or leave the floor to grab a rebound.

Disagree. Watch the replay in the video at .25x speed. Ayton does struggle to get control, but he is starting to gain control right before the contact from Giannis. Ayton absolutely scores that if Giannis doesn’t recover and get a finger on it or just straight foul him.

Also, what the block lacks in impressiveness from Ayton’s control of the ball, it more than makes up for by the fact that Giannis wasn’t even facing Ayton when the pass was thrown.

When the ball gets above his head, his head and hips are facing 180 degrees away from Ayton. He then recovers and gets a hand on the ball at the top of the square. That should be impossible.

Also, if you're going to discuss this, then you need the true GOAT:

Maybe the biggest defensive play in the history of the league.

The most unbelievable defensive play I've ever seen. The amount of ground he covered to catch Reggie in that short of a time was absolutely unreal.

How the series unfold will determine how this one is remembered.

Agreed. If the Bucks win, that play will be remembered as the turning point.

Sorry, but this is not like the others. Might as well throw in practice/pick up game blocks at the Y.

I don't even know what block this is, and i'm not one of the queers that makes comments about basketball when i don't watch it. I watch NBA basketball, and i have no recollection of this block.

Giannis block could easily be argued that it's #1. Both Miller and Igoudala went up like bitches. Not to take anything away from Prince and LeBitch, b/c both of their blocks were amazing, but had Reggie or Iggy dunked the damn ball those blocks don't happen.
Ayton was throwing it down, and the ball is at the top of the square, and Giannis barely even had the chance to follow the ball. There's only a handful of nba players in the history of the NBA that could have made that block. It required an elite ability to turn your hips quickly, get off your feet quickly, all while having a massive wingspan.

You can hate LeBron all you want, but you just sound stupid regarding this topic.

That block was incredible

It was the other fella who tried to downplay Giannis block. Giannis block was great. Lebron blocked a dude who had to be rolled outta bed on game day his back was so jacked up. added context is always a good thing when it comes to these kinda comparisons.

Agreed. But is important to remember all of the circumstances surrounding the block, and not just some (Ie. Pointing out it was game 7 while ignoring andre’s physical condition)
