Sources: The Yankees recognize they’re in a position of significant strength right now. Same with Giancarlo Stanton, who can decide exactly where he wants to go and force a deal. And the Marlins ... well, the Marlins are trying to figure out how to best salvage an absolute mess.

Is he worth it? Many people say he’s a one-dimensional player.

Speculation....

I don't see the Yankees making the trade unless they can get rid of Jacob Ellsbury or Chase Headley... then they would probably include Clarke Schmidt or Dillion Tate

If the Yankees are to add Stanton without bearing the full brunt of his salary, that’ll mean either leaving money with the Marlins or — perhaps more likely — sending some big contracts back in the deal. The Yanks are well-equipped to manage Stanton’s long-term commitment — the team has only around $150MM total committed beyond the 2018 season — but will have to be somewhat creative to get under the $197MM luxury tax bar for the coming season, which the organization hopes to do in order to re-set its luxury tax rate (which graduates depending upon how many consecutive seasons a club exceeds it).

It’s all speculation at this point, but there are a few obvious possibilities. Jacoby Ellsbury is owed $67MM through 2020 and has been discussed as a possibility, but his no-trade rights seem to pose a major complication. Chase Headley ($13MM through 2018) and Starlin Castro ($22MM through 2019) are among the other fairly expensive players that might conceivably be utilized to arrange a swap, though both are currently penciled in for significant roles.

They better get someone to pick up Judge’s slack. Pitchers have figured him out

This escalated quickly.

I put it at like a 1% chance of this happening at the beginning of this saga. The Steinbrenner family really wants to get under the 200 million dollar mark.

I guess if they can dump Ellsbury and Headley, it really wouldn't be that big of a hit against the payroll in the short term. Three years from now when their young core gets through arbitration and it will be a different story.

Would save them 30m this year so Stanton would essentially play for free and then 20 million after.... They would have almost two years free from his salary before taking it on. Of course by then they will be paying Judge, Severino, Bird, Didi, Sanchez, Hicks, etc

Starlin Castro's name coming up too.

Yankees really need to move him this offseason so it makes sense
