Another FBS head coach is leaving for a coordinator and/or position coaching job in college football, as Georgia State's Shawn Elliott has agreed to return to South Carolina as tight ends coach and run game coordinator.
"This was not a professional move, but a personal move," Elliott told ESPN. "We've made it work for seven years with my family still living in Columbia, and I even thought about not coaching this year. I had promised my daughter that I would be there for her senior year of high school and when this opportunity came up to go back to South Carolina and coach again, it was something I couldn't pass up. I've always loved South Carolina."
Elliott's deal runs through Dec. 31, 2026. Elliott will earn $750,000 for his first two seasons and $775,000 for his third year. South Carolina will also pay Georgia State $150,000 on Elliott's behalf as part of his buyout with his old school.
Elliott informed his staff and the players at Georgia State on Thursday morning that he was leaving.

When he took the Georgia State job his family didn't move to Georgia, they stayed in South Carolina so it might be a move just to be closer to his family.

That absolutely is the case. He also spent a ton of time in Columbia (won't fault being with family, but they should've moved to ATL) and he didn't really recruit metro Atlanta which may have hurt GSU more than helped.

Yeah, I get wanting to be w/his family but to just pick up and leave AFTER spring practice has started is a total dirtbag move.

How could you NOT recruit metro Atlanta being at GSU? How is that even possible?

I’ll never fault someone for choosing their family. I get it sucks for Georgia state nd the athletes but they’ll be fine.

He's not going to be hurting financially but he took half his current salary to be with his family. Respect.
