Game 7 Win or Go Home

Well, OKC flat did not show up last night. Did not expect that. I think its the 3rd game 6 they’ve lost in the last 2 years. Not sure playing JDub limited minutes was helpful but it didn't matter. SA shots lights out from 3 and Thunder played awful. Kept it in range all first half and then opening minutes of 3rd qtr game was blown open.
Again, SA won that game straight up. But wow they have turned into thugs. I fully expected massive amounts of threads about how ethical they are today.
This video shows “ethical” 3 plays:
1. That was a flagrant, tried to take out SGA
2. Hair pulling and trying to injure
3. Flat extended arms tried to injure
The league has their new golden boy
In the last 3 weeks Wemby has:
- Intentionally elbowed Naz Reid in the neck
- Called for bench players to try to hurt Thunder players with hard fouls after losing
- Skipped mandatory postgame media
- Yanked Lu Dort’s hair (the exact play Spurs fans wanted IHart arrested for)
- Tried to hurt Wallace with the push in awkward stance
All with no additional punishment from the NBA, Wemby being donned as the face of “ethical basketball,” and the narrative from the series being the Thunder whistle and Shai falling in a series they’re shooting less FT with both sides playing physically.
We’re witnessing the biggest mass gaslighting event the sport has ever seen.
As for the whistles, free throw tracker thru 6:
Game 1: Spurs +10 (Spurs win)
Game 2: OKC +7 (OKC win)
Game 3: even (OKC win)
Game 4: Spurs +14 (Spurs win)
Game 5: OKC +6 (OKC win)
Game 6: Spurs +13 (Spurs win)
Totals:
Spurs +37 in wins
OKC +13 in wins
Net: Spurs +24
OKC loses last night regardless but if we keep the Spurs at less than +10 FTs in game 7 OKC wins. The refs really have favored Spurs its not an anomaly.
I’ve been saying the tables will turn on Wemby and reputation. Its coming.

I shared elsewhere but,
Game 6 - 17 FTM in 1H
Game 5 - 40+ FTM in 1H
That’s straight up embarrassing as a viewer that we have to put up with that.
14 of those FTM came under 2:05 before half in Game 5
(Combined for both teams)
The NBA has got to be more consistent in the product that is shown. Allowing the teams to "play" is better for the viewer and we get to see more flow and the athletes be at their best. Blowing the whistle for every touch or "close" foul is a horrible watch and allows the refs to truly be part of the game in which they should not, they should just be there to keep the flow.

Heard this stat this morning from the talking heads....
Pretty much equates to the 3 ball has added in all the uncertainty and makes the road team very dangerous in Game 7s while the home team is under the pressure of winning in front of their home crowd, instead of it being more about FTs and slowing the game down to rely on a home fan base.
quote:
Since 2017, NBA home teams hold a 14-15 record in Game 7s, excluding the 2020 bubble games.
This marks a dramatic shift in NBA postseason history, as home teams won roughly 80% of Game 7s prior to this stretch.

It’s more worthwhile to focus on the teams involved. Two of those wins were from OKC just last year, played two home game 7’s and won both by a good margin.
Spurs haven’t played well in OKC outside of game 1, and that took a logo three and double overtime to win.
What OUGuy says about free throws will be interesting. I heard a stat yesterday, if you took out every free throw from both teams in the series, OKC would have won in 5. They would have won game 1 in regulation by 6.
I also don’t think Alex Caruso will let them lose a game 7 at home. He’s the X factor, wish he would start. I’m nervous and excited but if we lose at least we got a ring last year. Nobody goes back to back anymore.

Similar to referring to some stats by only numbers sometimes you also need to refer to what caused certain outcomes..

It's dishonest to post this as if they were fine. Neither of them should have been playing.
Gordon was playing on a grade 2 hamstring strain two to three days after the initial strain and could barely move.
MPJ was playing through an ac joint sprain and could barely lift his shooting arm over his head to shoot.
Westbrook also played through multiple fractures in his shooting hand.
The main point is that this will probably be the first of the game 7s in which the thunder don't have a significant health advantage. Might actually be disadvantaged this time.

FIFY
I have no dog in this fight, I am truly just a spectator that wants to watch good basketball.
I enjoy the role guys getting involved and hitting clutch 3s for the Thunder...I compared them to the 2015 Warriors in a way where its contagious....
but
It's the way they go about "other things" and thats where the rub for me is.. it becomes NOT basketball.
Back to the crossed arms and squinting into space.

TBF, San Antonio >>> Denver or Indiana (minus Hali) last year.

OKC fans expect everyone to fawn over them and believe that they would sweep the 2017 Warriors.

It's hilarious that your lie gets upvoted but the truth gets downvoted. A good snapshot for the state of our world right now.
