So you're mad that those teams have the most posters and thus, most posts are about them?
Please, we'd all love to know more about who the Pens are recalling from the AHL this week. This seems like pertinent information.

Lies.
And I'll let you know, depends on who we send down when Ehrhoff returns any game now. Doubt it's Pouliot.

Hog is an annoying fanboy, but this thread needs a villain. I will never get tired of Baloo slapping him around.

A lot of fail in this rant about the Stars.
No need for the disclosure. Anyone who reads this thread can tell by your posts you aren't a Dallas fan.
Truth. This year has been very disappointing.
Wrong. Spezza was brought in for two reason: extend scoring to multiple lines and to win faceoffs. Around the allstar break, the Stars were second in the league in scoring (I think they dropped to around 4th since then) and Spezza has won about 55% of his FO attempts. There is a reason why Eric Cole is having his best season in 4 years and is about to surpass his highest point total as a Star with still 1/3 of the season left: It's because he is playing on the 2nd line with Spezza & Hemsky. Spezza has been such a disappointment, according to you, that the Stars resigned him to 4 more years at $7.5M/year earlier this season.
Spezza and defense were never mentioned in the same sentence for reasons they signed him, so surely you can't be blaming him for that? he has done exactly what the Stars needed.
Truth. But everyone knew that coming in. The hope was that the revolving door of D-men would gel as the season went along. Unfortunately, that hasn't happened.
Extremely wrong. Kari was having statistically his worst season as a Star up until about 7-8 games ago. His save % was around .900 and his GAA was nearly half a point higher than it had been last season. He has also let in a large amount of soft goals this season - way more than his norm. Now, his last few weeks has been brilliant. He is allowing around 1.5 goals per game and his save % is around .950 in that span. He has been so good lately that his season stats are starting to creep up to his career average's with the Stars. But make no mistake about it - he hasn't been good this year. And I say that as a big Kari fan. Matter of fact, many expected Enroth to come in after the trade and challenge Kari for the #1 spot for the remainder of the season. He was traded for a conditional #3 draft pick that can move to a #2 if he starts a certain number of playoff games - that's how much Enroth is expected to play. That type of deal isn't made if the team's current #1 goalie is having a great season.
You're correct that the defense hasn't been doing him any favors, but that's not the only reason he has been struggling this season. You also have to consider he is being helped out by a top-5 scoring team in the league (again, top 2 a few weeks ago)
No idea what this proves. You suggesting Seguin's season is a disappointment if he finishes top 3-5 in these? He may not be that high anymore since he wont be back until April, but Seguin has been lights out this year regardless of season awards.
Haha, the defense was worse when Gonchar was here. I don't watch a lot of Habs games, so he may be doing great up there. But they also have better pieces set up around him to allow for decent play. In Dallas, he didn't have that and the spotlight was on him. He was bad.
Again, the defense isn't doing any favors to whomever is in net for the Stars. But Lindback was 2-8 with a .875 save %. That's not all on the defense. He was horrible while here.
Print the shirts? Seriously, this season has been a disappointment.
Actually the three guys we have out right now have scored a combined 55-60 goals or something close to that. So yeah, you're not going out on a limb with this prediction.

Out of your next 10 games, you might win 50% of them. Might. The only way you win 6 or more is if every one of your opponents plays their backups and rests their regulars. Even then with Seguin and Hemsky out 5 out of 10 will be difficult.

Well at least you've accomplished your goal! My favorite part of the season other than seeing the Rangers or Predators do well is the inevitable penguins playoff collapse. As bad as the Stars have underachieved this year the Penguins are all-time consecutive champs in that area.

I've seen my Cup, maybe you'll get to eventually. 20 years is a long time.
Rule 1 in shite talking is being able to back it up, which neither of your teams can do (although you wouldn't get credit if Nashville won one), but it's cute you always try.

The Stars problem is simple: their defense is terrible. It's not a coaching issue, it's a talent issue. They've got some great young players, and Klingberg has already arrived, but blueliners take a long time to develop, as a rule. We're still looking at 2-3 years before the AHL kids are legit NHL players. Yet the Stars are balking at trying to get in on picking at the Leafs' corpse to take Dion Phaneuf because of his salary. That's a penny wise and pound foolish decision. Sure, he makes a ton of money. He's also 29, you have tons of cap room, and by the time his deal expires, he'll be 34 and still likely an effective player and his help will have finally matured.
The Stars can't really attract free agents, and it takes too long to develop a defenseman. If they want to win while Seguin and Benn are in their primes, which I think they would like, they are going to have to trade for a blueliner, and that means likely taking on a bad contract. Until they come face to face with that reality, the Stars probably top out as a 3 seed in their division, maybe even a four. This isn't a coaching problem, it's a front office problem (though, to be fair, the rebuild only began 2 years ago and they've done a great job so far).

In other news, Pensburgh looked at scoring depth for each team and made a pie chart of each team's production. It's pretty cool, and gives you an idea of who are the more balanced teams in the NHL:
LINK
Here's the most terrifying one for me: the Isles.
Damn. That's some balance.

Holy shite - so basically the Islanders 4th line is as good as half of the leagues 2nd lines. Thanks for posting. As a Rangers fan that is the most depressing post I've read in months.

Good to hear that from TROTZ.

Did you watch the Broadway blueshirts hoist lord Stanley's cup in 1994? That was a nice 7 game series.
Jeff beukeboom could lay the smack down.
Hog is making it out as if you are currently a under 30 punk who didn't see this. True?

The Preds' chart is also pretty terrifying for you. Both of your teams are exceedingly top heavy, getting over half their production from just one line.
Still, I thought that was a really cool visualization. The fancystat crowd is a little obsessed with charts, and a lot of them I don't find nearly as helpful as they think they are (if one of your variables is color, I'm pretty much out). But this one was great.

Yes I did. It was awesome. I couldn't get tickets so I had to watch at a friends house as it was on cable. I started to like the Rangers during the Kelly Kisio days but went to more Whalers games as you could get in for $10. Beukeboom was fun to watch! It's kind of funny when you think of some of the lesser players on that roster that now have a ring:
Zubov
Karpotsev
Kypreos
Specifically Matteau......

Over 40 guy that still believes they are the 94 Rangers every year, and ultimately ends in tears.
And yes, both of the teams I like scare the shite out of me from their lack of depth. Been a fun year though.

The 94 Rangers Canucks series was a great series. I watched game 7 in a bar in Ft Worth.
The matchp of Messier, Kurri, Leetch, Richter v Bure, Linden, Mclean was amazing.
The evil genius Mr Spaceley had not become complete team imploder and moron yet.
The one thing I do miss is the 1940 chants. But hey whatever.
One a side note:
I am just so glad the child rapist never got a cup and that Gretzky broke his heart in 93.
Also I am proud to say that le Colisee never got to hoist a banner. You know it had to eat at their souls a few years later in a different country that team skated the cup.

There are two things I still hate about the 1994 Rangers.
1) I can no longer chant "1940!" which was a lot of fun.
2) They traded away Mike Gartner at the deadline, so he didn't win a Cup in his career. I really, really hate the Rangers for that. I could've lived with a Rangers Cup just so Gartner could win one.
