Frank Monica

There are a couple of Facebook entries on the link to the River Parish Football page.

Monica was a longtime prep coach at St Charles Catholic and Lutcher. He also spent time at Tulane, coaching with Larry Smith and Vince Gibson. He won state titles at SCC and LHS and was state runner-up 5 times.

He was one of the best ever in Louisiana, retiring with the most career wins among river parish coaches. His teams were always well prepared and played hard-nosed fundamental football despite often having less talent.

The river parishes are known for some sneaky quick-twitch tho.

Must be the water in the Spillway or something...

I can't imagine his son leaving Rummel. This has to be Wayne Stein's job to lose right?

Mr. Brocato in the Clarion Herald has said the same thing. Nick is set at Rummel and it's Stein's if he wants it most likely.

Played on Monica's 1978 Lutcher Bulldogs State Championship team. One of the most inspirational men I've ever known.

The name of Frank’s son Nick, Archbishop Rummel’s head football coach, has entered speculative conversations. Nick would be a great replacement, but in the two years he has been at Rummel’s helm, the Raiders have won 19 of 21 games and the 2019 Division I championship.

Well, good luck with that....

That would be like leaving Alabama for UAB....

IDK - as a 2A school back in their day they seemed to always punch above their weight class. My high school played them and they seemed more athletic than us by far

One of the best in the business.. very respected by the other old guard coaches he locked horns with. Man cared deeply about the kids that played for him.

I'm gonna miss him, Ive known him since I got fell through the cracks when he was at tulane

Amazing ride and one helluva Football coach. I grew up playing HS football in the 80's when Frank coached at Jesuit. His teams were always prepared and often times won with much less talent.

Greg Davis was the Tulane HC during this time ? Frank advocated for Davis to offer my younger brother a scholarship, but Davis was to enamored with Billy Duncan. 33 years ago seems like yesterday.
