Enjoying this far. As a 90s kid who grew up more with him in the booth and video game, I didn’t realize he retired from coaching at 42!

If I made a list of guys I never expected to live to be 85, Madden is at the top of the list.

But God bless him. A true GOAT

Thanks for the heads up on this. I had forgotten about it. Hope they post it online, because I missed most of it.

Loved seeing him, and Pat Summerall, at Cowboy games when I worked them in the 80's. Nearly always wore jeans with white tennis shoes and no laces, with his coat and tie. I think I got him to autograph two of his books.

Yes, but she was an OT 9 in her 20s

Yup. If you have to list the most important figures in the history of the NFL, the top 4 would have to be Paul Brown, Al Davis, Bill Walsh, and John Madden.

Not that you can argue against any of those guys, but leaving out George Halas and Vince Lombardi is tough.

She looks closer to 28 than 48.

Yeah I missed it too...hunting for it on the box to record but I'm not seeing it listed.

You can’t remember how many times you met John Madden and got an autograph from him?

Replace Bill Walsh with Tom Landry. Both an offensive and defensive genius. Developed the 4-3 defense (and later, the Flex defense). Developed the modern, motion-based offense as well as bringing back the shotgun offense.

After reading the Rushmore discussions on here, it’s obvious how hard it is to pick the 4 greatest NFL figures. Damn near impossible.

Halas
Lombardi
Madden
Al Davis
Landry
Coryell
Paul Brown
Walsh
Rozell

Would a player need to be included?

If so, a few to toss into the conversation:
Walter Payton
Dick Butkis
Jim Brown
Tom Brady
Jerry Rice

I know I got the one called, "Hey, I wrote a Book" signed, and I'm pretty sure I got another one signed. I used to work the Cowboy games. Saw him there a lot, and talked with him several times. This was the mid to late 80's. I've killed a lot of brain cells since.
