Kind of a bummer that all the behind the scenes stuff in F1 is 10x more interesting than the actual races are.
We've had a run of some pretty lame tracks. It will hopefully get better this season.

Hes also had barely any time to adjust to a completely new car with testing being cut in half, Bahrain GP was useless at that point because the new drivers still didnt know dick about their cars, then next week was a rainy Imola, so again useless as nothing can really be learned (just freaking survive)... basically Portugal was the first real run at it
And this goes for all the drivers at new teams... shite, vettel had the worst of it cuz he only got half (of half) of preseason testing

He's also washed up.
Kimi, Vettel and Alonso need to hang it up.

Gas, Albon and Perez all unable to break through as second RB driver. Feels like a pattern.

Races have been fun. Max and Hamilton overtook each other in the same race. I think that’s plenty exciting.

To be totally fair, none of them have been given a full on shot besides Albon, even then he came in under weird circumstances. Horner pulled the plug on Gas pretty rashly and hell, Albon would be kind of interesting in this faster car this year. Horner just looks desperate at this point and his tactical frick ups keep getting worse it seems. Toto just has him by the balls and he's too arrogant to adjust accordingly.
Perez was just a pretty meh signing, especially factoring in him getting up to speed. He was good last year but that car was freakin' fast. They clearly wanted someone who would be okay playing second fiddle to Max but so far it hasn't really worked from a challenging him standpoint. Like I said, Albon after another season, in the faster car is interesting to me. Although he does clearly seem to be too much of a nice guy.

Yea, its kind of the sport. And you have to watch the mid table battles if you want real parity/constant action.
It's always been a couple of races within the race.
Thank jesus for Max though, dude is on another level of badass. His overtake on the first corner last weekend was balls of steel stuff.

2018 Ferrari was a better car than Merc for most of the year.
2019 Ferrari was better at the end by exploiting the loophole.
Ross Brawn was the reason for the early success of the Merc turbohybrid era, but his mark had slowly faded away as other teams caught up. Merc getting a jumpstart on the engine formula and showing up with the "split turbo" is legendary. Red Bull is trying to do the same thing right now with their engine works team. I think engines are froze until 2024 at this point. All their efforts are being focused on the next engine.

I think a lot of people definitely prefer the simplicity of a two-way or three-way battle for a championship, so F1 is satisfying as long as one person isn't totally dominating.
In IndyCar's first four races there are four different winners from three different teams, and I would say over half the field has a decent chance to win a race. You can dominate one weekend and then be a mid-fielder the next. I much prefer the IndyCar structure where many drivers can win. Over the course of the season the cream still rises to the top by being relentlessly consistent, even if you're not winning most of the races. Scott Dixon is incredibly underrated by non IndyCar fans. I'm not even criticizing anyone, Dixon is boringly consistent with constant super-steady drives, staying out of trouble and finishing in the top 5 more often than not. But it's not flashy if you're not winning most of the races.

I think playing second to Lewis and Max comes with not nearly getting the same amount of team attention. In some cases, you’re noticeably the better driver (such as Norris vs Sainz and Mclaren last year) where you’ll just earn it but in situations closer to parity, the second driver loses out on a lot of quality time with the engineering and other teams. It’s the toughest position to be in where Bottas and Perez are right now.

One thing that I don't think anyone has mentioned is that when a team has a #1 driver, the car is designed and built to accommodate the #1 driver's size and handling preference. It's possible that all of the 2nd drivers for Red Bull are having a difficult time with handling characteristics that Max likes. It seems plausible to me because of Gasly. He drove well for Toro Rosso, then struggled at Red Bull. Then he went back to Toro Rosso and immediately started driving better again.
The most infamous example of this that I can think of was in MotoGP in the mid 2000s. Casey Stoner dominated in 2007 on the Ducati, but over the next few seasons no one else could get a handle on that bike. He was the only guy that could make it go fast.

I’m assuming this means Norris was the noticeably better driver? Sainz and Norris generally seemed to be pretty even and not one really better than the other, even though mclaren made it clear they were focusing on Norris.
If you really look at it, sainz finished higher in the standings despite having 3 dns/DNF to Norris’ 1, and Norris was +1 in head to head finishes. Seems like pretty good parity?

That's probably compounded by Red Bull’s (understandable) impatience. Drivers have less time to work with the engineers to get comfortable.

I shouldn’t have said better driver. Maybe just as good. Lando and Sainz were comparable and lando proved that despite being the number 2 guy.

I think I’m just so tired of Lewis and I’m salty at how this weekend went and generally that they delayed the rule changes to next season.

The big teams are just going to get further away from the midfield with all this extra time to plan around the new regs.
Also sounds like Hamilton is going to sign a 2 year deal in the next few months. So he will be here a couple more years.

That’s true. Hamilton just keeps finding ways to win. I was hoping a Lando or a Perez would challenge the status quo at the top but hasn’t worked out.

Also, whats up Alonso right now. Dude like Jon Gruden and killed his mystique coming back.
Hopefully he is concentrated on next year and just going through the motions. Letting Ocon take him in every race, which is very un-Alonso.

Alonso right now
I havent finished last seasons Drive to Survive, so dont give me any spoilers. But since Grand Prix Driver... he's just lost passion/fire in every interview. Its like he just goes through motions without that extra IT factor to be elite.
I think he got a golden ticket ride in LeMans/FIA Enduro where Toyota Gazoo Racing absolutely dominated qualifying and races. I think driving with multiple drivers hides some his lackadaisy approach.
Id rather him retire to a commentator box than see him fade away behind the wheel.
