It would certainly not do Mercedes any good to carry around the stench of a loss in the appeal. They would bear that albatross around their necks for all of the next season.

Just be the better man, take your lumps and move on, working towards better clarity in how the rules can be fairly applied.

It would set a horrible precedent too and possibly open the floodgates to teams frequently appealing decisions made by the stewards to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which typically hears appeals for doping cases in Olympic sports and things outside the field of play.

Not the first F1 title to go to CAS. Probably wouldn't be the last.

Toto might have gotten some concessions from FIA in order to drop his appeal.

Yep. Melted over Seb winning a F1TV trophy. Guilty.

Twitter was wild yesterday. Many claims of F1 losing half of its fans because of the race yesterday.

Twitter is an amplifier for handfuls of meat puppets to appear as though they are a consensus or movement.

I missed this yesterday. I have a feeling all of the real top notch memes will come from this.

Didn't read any of the tweets, but apparently Latifi is on the receiving end of some hatred today.

I hate sports fans… They take shite way to serious.

Grow the frick up and do something constructive with your life outside of being depressed/angry when your team loses.

Football fans are the worst though.

Soccer fans are at least consistent. They burn things down no matter what.

Somebody needs to create a "Latifi to red bull" announcement.

Don't think I can really feel bad for a billionaire's kid, but I think Mazepin has taken way more heat than he deserves.

Dude is definitely in over his head and because Haas is such a shite organization he has little chance of recovering. I wish his dad would buy the team. Maybe they would pour money into the team and give us a team that could be competitive.

Mazepin is doing simwork at a fricking gamestop.

It was really a no-win situation. You don’t get back to racing and everyone is pissed that you ended under yellow. You race but don’t move the back-markers out the way, then the other half thinks you handed Lewis the title.

Typically there is an extra lap there to let all the back markers go (because this typically isn’t done until after the wreck is somewhat cleared, but there wasn’t time for that. They chose the option to have the two guys vying for the championship to duel it out on track. I’m biased, but I think that was the right call. Mercedes had opportunities to win the race even in the event of a safety car and couldn’t or didn’t take advantage.

With the VSC, they had to know the opportunity for a late yellow was possible and that they’d be sitting ducks on changing tires.

With the SC that came that they should have expected, then they gambled that Race Control would finish the race under yellow. If they pit, Max probably doesn’t, and they win. If they pit and Max pits, they win. Max really had one opportunity to win and it was in the scenario that presented itself to him. He took advantage and it won him the race. It took Mercedes building a 3 race rocket engine to even give Lewis a chance and they still came up short.

Reading your post made me think about how NASCAR handles last-lap cautions. I don’t know all the ins and outs, but don’t they basically get an overtime?

In other words, once there’s a caution within the window where the race ordinarily would finish under the yellow flag, they allow time to clear the track before they go green. If there’s a wreck on the new last lap, it ends regardless.

Would cause issues with fueling and possibly tire wear in F1, but smarter people than I should be able to figure that out.
