wtf is George Lucas doing in Qatar?

A few hours later this thought popped in my mind.

Someone captioned it "The Empire Strikes Back"

I want to hear this backstory of this. Maybe he is doing some F1 related story. Dude was standing on the rail congratulating him.

George Lucas goes to a shite ton of races. The commentators were even like “oh, he’s here again.”

He loves racing and he said he always wanted a race scen of some point in e dry movie he’s associated with because he loves speed and racing.

Have seen him at other races, but Qatar was just funny. And Lewis hugging him afterwards like his was a jackman.

Was a boring race. Lewis is so good and that engine swap last week is such an edge for Mercedes that today's outcome was an almost foregone conclusion with Lewis on the P1 position.

I’ll go the opposite way and say this race was better than I expected it to be, way more overtakes than I figured there would be.

We got..
Max taking a penalty and going from P7 to P2, nipping fastest lap to limit points lost. I didn’t think he’d get that high. Up until Max had some aero damage he was closing the gap to Lewis and even then was able to swap fastest lap with him several times throughout.
Alonzo podium
Perez with a decent drive(though he should have never been in P11)
Some pretty wild tire drama

I’ve definitely watched way worse.

Yeah race outside of 1/2 which was never in question was terrific.

I think checo had to pass everyone twice in this race

I assume Max can’t win WDC by finishing 2nd to Lewis these last couple of races (assuming he gets fastest laps also)?

8 pts separates them.

25pts for 1st, 18 for 2nd.

No, Max needs a max of 44 points to win. Depends on what Lewis does as to whether he needs wins or just finish 2nd, but if Lewis wins 1st both races he can't win by finishing 2nd.

It’s pretty crazy to think that Max and Lewis realistically could go into the very last race all tied up.

HAM P1 with fastest lap with VER P2 in Saudi to set up a winner take all in Abu Dhabi. Would be epic.

Maybe they'll take each other out at Yas...

Toto said merc is going back to the “spicy” engine for Saudi. He means the one from Brazil, which means they weren’t even using that one this week.

This WDC is unfortunately over. Lewis is coasting to wins in the last 2 races.

Why do you think they didn't use it this week then? They had that thing running incredibly tuned up because if they didn't win it was over. The engines are already unreliable and have a bid drop off. Who knows after they run one that high on a fresh engine.

Thanks, but doesn't say why they didn't use it.

I think there is a real possibility that they pushed it too much too soon and its a risk to run it.

Ah, I thought you were questioning that they didn’t use it… sorry to sound like an a hole.

I honestly can’t find an answer to that online, but it sure worked out for them last week. I hope you’re right about them being unreliable but they only need it to be reliable for two races so we’ll see

You so badly want Merc to lose, don't you?

100%, but that doesn't change the fact that something has to explain the power they found in a logical manner

But why do you think they all of a sudden found a shite ton of power in Brazil this late into the season and then DIDNT run the same engine the next race? The only logical explanation are

1) They are cheating
2) They ran the engine at a different mode because they were in a must win situation

If you are a long-time watcher of F1 you know teams don't magically find that extra sort of pace with 4 races to go in the season. Horner thinks they are cheating, I'm not sure, but I think its very possible they took a brand new ICE and put that bitch on 11 because they had no other choices. And its also not good for the engine to be run that hard right out of the box. I'm not making any of the shite up, these are well known concepts in F1 and motorsports in general.

Didn't Toto say it is hard to cheat these days and get away with it with everything so out in the open and thousands of cameras around at each race? If Horner/Red Bull can prove Merc is actually cheating, you bet will do everything in their power to bring evidence to the FIA. There is absolutely no love lost between these two teams as we all know.

I think this is what most probably happened. They gambled and won in Brazil, but didn't want to push their luck too much.
