It looks like Toto wants to program Russell.
Condition and calibrate Russell to avoid repeat of Hamilton - Rosberg 2016

What’s interesting is that George will have more leverage in the situation than Nico did. Lewis was still in the prime of his career with Nico whereas now Lewis is on his way out the door.
So what if George doesn’t play nice and goes wheel to wheel with Lewis the whole time? George, the future of the team, needs to give way so the old horse can get his last few gallops in? The only card Mercedes would have is to threaten stealing Max from RB.

They lose the constructors championship and potentially millions of dollars?
As a fan we want to see good racing, as a team Merc wants to win the constructors, and drivers, championship. Merc sticking with Bottas made sense because it produced the result they wanted year after year. Definitley riskier to bring in Russell than keep Bottas, especially if the race is close and the teammate battle of 2016 occurs again.
Great for us, bad for Merc.

My thoughts exactly. Let the faster racer by the #1 on the team. Whoever it may be.

So first grand prix of 2022 is Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg (not F1 I know). I live in Naples so I am thinking of going.
Miami F1 race is May 8th but I will probably be in Spain.
But, but, but! The Spanish Grand Prix is May 22 and I will still be in Spain. So, I'm thinking to plan our itinerary around that. My wife is down for it.

St Pete is one of the great race courses in America
I get it is a street track, but I always liked watching the race there.

Exactly, if they wanted to go full support of Lewis, they would have kept Bottas. I can’t imagine Lewis preferred the switch. But Mercedes knows Lewis is on his way out and they need to set up for the future.
My guess is they told George that Lewis wants his 8th championship to break the record. It either happens this year and there’s no problem when you join the team, or RB exhausted themselves winning this year while we put our efforts into the new car, and you need to sit back and learn for a year while Lewis wins in 2022. If it comes to that, I bet George plays nice, even though he shouldn’t.

Looks like Mick and Mazepin are confirmed to return for Haas.
Just the last Alfa seat is in question.

Mazepin does not deserve and never has deserved an F1 seat. Which makes him no different from practically a hundred F1 drivers ever. I have seen worse.
That being said, him being in a thorn in Schumacher's side is amusing. And I have nothing against Schumacher. But if he wants to be someone, he has to vanquish him and I want to see some more intra-Haas turmoil.

Hopefully The Hulk gets it. Alfa would have a solid team with him and Bottas.

So reading on r/Formula1 the rumor is that both quali and the GP could be run Sunday

Hulkenberg said a few weeks ago that Alfa hadn’t contacted him.

If I was going to make a list of extremely talented but underappreciated drivers the list would probably start with Hulkenberg and Bottas. They’d definitely be in the top five. that seems like that would be an absolute dream scenario for Alfa.
