Agreed. Takes a little out of tomorrow’s race.
I do like that the guys in the back can just throw on softs and just go for it though.

I’m not so certain I like it, seems like it cheapens qualifying a bit, gives guys that screwed qualifying a chance to redeem themselves and could end up being a mess for others, looking at you Perez. Also seems to maybe be a bit of a spoiler to how the race will go.
Yeah, it is an odd feeling. Not sure if like or dislike the sprint race yet.
I find it odd that Russell is getting investigated when Leclerc has continually had similar incidents without even being invested much less penalized.
Also, Sainz rejoing the track should get a penalty. streamable
Perez will be starting from the pitlane. Will be allowed to make changes to the car.

I do agree, you don’t want to go the way of football.

George given a 3 place penalty.
Kind of shite. I guess the stewards treat the first lap of the race differently from the 1st lap of the sprint race.

Stewards consistently being inconsistent.

I don't know, it was pretty bad. LINK

Lately those incidents have been ignored on the opening lap, for some drivers at least.
This also highlights how penalties won't be consistent with a race format. Going wide nullifies your laptime like during a race, but then you get a qualifying grid spot penalty for this. Should have been a 5 second penalty.
The warnings given for practice starts are more evidence of this. Last year HAM picked up 2 five second penalties for a similar action (him scootering to the stewards office). This time they just gave warnings.

I wasn't able to watch and just watched the highlights on YT. Why did Perez hang back in 18th after his pit stop? Could he not advance?

Think there was some damage. It would make sense, that was a pretty heavy off.

Also, another perspective: it’s more competitive F1 racing.

An unintended consequence is that we just saw what the race is going to look like tomorrow. No real adjustments can be made, so Max will probably drive away with it and a few first lap changes.
Sainz and Perez will move up through the field as a result of them being artificially low.
Seems like best case to see some drama is the Mercs splitting strategy on Max and making him have to work for it.
Too much of that kind of foreshadowing will make people disinterested in the GP itself.

Old man Alonso is still the best.
Quite clear.

Going to end up with a Max, Ham, Bot or the Merc sandwich on the podium
I really wish they’d reverse grid.. yeah completely screws up points chase, but have them start opposite of how the previous race finished. Would be so interesting to see the great drivers fighting through the field every other or third race.

Lewis with more racial whining, with a side dish of global warming.

Saw an F1 tweet saying Perez is starting the race from the pit lane due to parts changes after the sprint.
Doesn’t seem great!

I’m a noob so a few questions:
Does this happen often?
What point in the pit does he start (own box, start/back of the pit, etc)?
