I don’t think anyone is not saying HAM is a great driver. But the mercs have been dominate aside from that.
It is what it is. It just makes the race practically unwatchable. Having one person win 75% and half of those are by 35-45sec differential isn’t good for your sport.
They need less restrictions. Not more. Ferrari found something to compete last year and it got immediately shut down.

My point was that Hamilton would overcome a lot of handicapping to still win. While Bottas is good, I think he could relatively easily be thrown from his horse with some rule changes, but I don't think that's possible with Hamilton. He is just that good at running a race, imo. You'd have to do something pretty egregious to keep him down.

You have to be good to get there, so not taking anything away from Hamilton. But he is the preferred driver at Merc.
If you put George Russell in his seat, GR is the champion.

Ferrari broke the rules to compete last year. In true Ferrari fashion it appears they gave everyone the secret when they screwed themselves on fuel load.
I'm all for opening up the formula, but if there is a set of rules then you can't blatantly break them, deny you are doing it, then get slapped down when the secret is revealed.
Also, not sure if anyone is following the Russell/Perez/Williams news, but George kind of revealed why it all got started. Perez negotiating the Red Bull seat.

I don't personally agree with that. Yes, the Merc is the best car out there by a mile and I think whoever drives it has a very large advantage when it comes to the championship, but it still takes someone like Hamilton to win it week in, week out. The man is machine.

Not a huge fan of Perez but if he did go to Red Bull, would he bring enough financial backing with him so the team could takeover/purchase the Honda engine process and make it their own?

From what I've read it isn't a dollar amount, it is that Honda doesn't want to let go of the IP.
Honda isn't leaving racing, they are only leaving F1. It seems their Indy program will still be going.

I enjoyed this meme response earlier today after a Mongolian rep issued a letter to Max.

That’s because Mercedes obviously favors Lewis over Valteri and he’s too much of a company guy to complain. Max in bottas seat? shite man.
He wasn’t saying George in the 2nd chair.

I'm on record as being a Russell fanboy. Comments in this thread will prove that. Nothing but hope for the future for him. I still stand by my point that Russell could not do what Hamilton currently does in the Merc. I know it's fun to hate on Hamilton, and I do it too, but to deny his insane skill and give all the credit to the car is wrong, imo. A few of the drivers on the grid could consistently get podiums with the Merc, but they would not dominate like Hamilton.

I think that most people realize that there are prob at least six guys you could drop into that number one at Mercedes and they also win the title going away.
I think all of
Bottas
Max
Danny ric
Leclerc
Sainz
Vettel
In the first seat at Mercedes win the title.
It’s not a knock on Lewis. It’s just how much better merc is and the fact they obviously play favorites with their number one

I agree all those guys in a merc would win a title, but you are still selling Ham short.
While some guys might have an edge in one aspect over ham, Hamilton is top tier at practically every responsibility a driver has. His tire management is insane (memes aside) as well as his fuel management.
Put him in an equal car with any of those guys and he still beats them almost every time. Max probably the only one who could consistently challenge him.

Hamilton is the greatest driver on this grid by a MILE.

I hate him with a passion for his off-track stuff and have zero issue admitting this, he's special. This weekend was just another display of his excellent tire management. He basically hung ~3 seconds off of Bottas and as soon as Bottas tires started to go away he breezed right on by and opened up nearly a 30 second advantage by the end of the race.
How many times have we seen him do the same but while out front? Just bopping along managing his tires and as soon as someone gets within range to pressure him he just turns it on and opens up a nice comfortable gap.
I've really enjoyed the hell out of this season, I just forget about 1st-3rd except for the off chances something weird happens, Monza/Sainz leading a few laps/etc, and pay attention to the midfield.
Ricciardo, Leclerc, and Perez are scrapping for 4th in the driver's championship.
Norris, Albon(lol), Gasly, and Sainz are all within a few points of one another.
Racing Point, McLaren, and Renault are battling for 3rd in the constructors. I mean I knew Ferrari was going to be bad but they might not even finish in the top 5.
Really wish we could've seen what Red Bull would be able to do with a proper #2 in the car. Right now it's 2 vs 1 with the Mercedes and Max but if Red Bull had a decent enough #2 to get into Mercedes pit window and give them fits some of these races could've been a bit more interesting.

RBR does not like Gasly for how he went out last year. He wasn't quiet. His future is somewhere else and that is a good thing. Maybe knocks Ocon out from Renault.

Him and Toto Wolff are apparently joined at the hip. The Merc/Aston news is not surprising.
Merc and Aston have been friendly for years outside of F1.
