Not a big guy. 5'11", 190ish. Very productive behind those USC lines, though.

The ghost hold on LSU in 79 got him.

Also NFL rushing leader, Comeback Player of the Year in 1987.
Won every award in 1979.
Twice Rose Bowl MVP (only 3 others in 100 year history have done it.)

White is still USC's career rushing leader (6,245 yards, then the No. 2 mark in NCAA history.
That's saying a lot for Tailback U.
1977 (1,478 yards), 1978 (1,859 yards) and 1979 (2,050 yards)
"He was the toughest player I've ever coached," said John Robinson, White's former USC and Rams head coach. "He was really unusual in that regard. He was a great player and just loved playing the game. Those are the things I remember the most. He was a really tough guy, and he was an extremely gifted athlete. But the toughness…wow!"

My apologies for how I acted, at that game, to you and every student, in the student section.
Yes, I was that guy. Greatest football game I ever attended.

RIP. His performance in the Rose Bowl game in 1980 cost Ohio State the national championship. A great player gone way too early.

As a young Browns fan I was extremely excited to see him drafted so that he could turn the franchise around.

Relegated Marcus Allen to fullback for his first two years at USC
USC's 1979 team is probably the most talented not to win a national title.

No, year before even though USC had beat Bama head to head
USC had a tie and Bama went undefeated

I just remember that LSU that year was a decent team and played lights out against both USC 17-12 and Bama 3-0… and USC was gifted the rose bowl game…..
