I don’t think Burrow has the leverage he thinks he has...
He is a proven athlete and college QB.
He is not a proven NFL QB. He will go to the Bengals (if they want him) or he will go home.
I guess the TB Vipers would take him if he really didn’t want to play for the Bengals.

You're probably right that he will suck it up and suit up for the Bengals, but no college athlete is a proven pro, so that argument doesn't hold water. There is a precedent.

Elway could do that shite because he was also a baseball prospect.

Bo could do that shite because he was also a baseball prospect.

Eli could do that shite because his family was loaded.

While Burrow COULD do it, the risks are extremely high for him.

There’s a precedent when the athlete in question has other options.
Burrow isn’t going to get that first round draft money anywhere else..

Also, the narrative on here that going to a bad team will ruin an otherwise good QB's career is just ludicrously dumb.

If Burrow is a bust it won't be because he went to the Bengals in the first round of the draft.

If he turns out to be good he will either A) get paid big bucks to lose games with the Bengals or B) get traded to a team that can better utilize him.

I think it’s amazing how Mike Brown gets crushed by everyone who has an opinion. Nobody has stepped up to support the guy and Bengals have made no effort to denounce the critics. None at all

I like Burrow a lot, and I feel bad for him that the Bengals have the No. 1 pick. But I hope he doesn’t try to pull an Elway or Manning. I don’t care how bad the ownership is. Be a man and embrace the challenge. I always hated Elway for what he did to get to the Broncos and I lost all respect for Archie for dragging the Chargers to get Eli to New York.

This is so dumb. You cannot remotely fathom the speed and strength of the NFL making comments like this. Burrow is much better off going in the second or third round and having a long career in the NFL than going to Bengals with a big rookie contract. His mindset and abilities with garner HUGE contracts in the lifespan of his career outside of Cincinnati.

He won't garner huge contracts if he goes to a team that doesn't actually need him and he never actually sees playing time.
Or if for whatever reason he ends up not being able to handle the NFL.
It'd be a waste for him to walk away because he thinks he's got some sort of non-existent leverage. If he does well at the next level, then he'll have all the leverage in the world. Even as good as a season as he had, he'll still be completely green in the NFL.

Joe will do well in the NFL, IMO. He has to stay healthy though. The Bengals will not invest in the OL to keep a QB healthy. He is better signing a small rookie contract, proving himself, and signing a large second and third contract. There are a lot of teams who need a good QB right now. I hope he ends up in NE, SD, or NO.

I despise the Bengals organization so much, I think he may be better waiting a year, if drafted by them, and entering the draft again.

What’s funny is that I would argue San Diego has had more talent overall since that draft offensively than the Giants

Yeah but AJ Smith and Dean Spanos let a lot of that talent walk too.

Running to LSU seems to contradict this point.

Which is really stupid to begin with

They’ve had some good teams the past decade and half. Far better track record than the Dolphins.

The bengals have a long track record under the browns.

The fins have a long successful track record. And they were in the playoffs in 16

More importantly, while the Fins have made mistakes, Ross isn’t. A cheap arse.

As to record: last 8 years bengals have about ten more wins. And that is with their most successful coach ever

Don't do it well at the combine. Perform poorly in your interviews. Get caught on film partying hard or with a blunt. Lots of things he could do to push his draft stock down. He'd still go first round though, later in the first to a much better team.

I think if it wasn’t a team in his home state, he would at least consider pulling an Eli, but I don’t think he’ll do it. As much of a dumpster fire as the Bengals are

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a more gutsy performance in modern pro football than when Eli got the ever living shite beat out of him in 2011/12 nfc title game and led the giants to the super bowl.

None of those are realistic. Those ideas are bad.

All you do is say you won’t play. That is what adults do. And let your agent deal w it.
