1210 the Score existed because it was part of the transaction when Gulfstar bought the River in 1996. It was Christian at the Music at the time but was flipped when the renewed LSU contract mandated women's basketball. It wasn't going on Wynk, wfmf, or River. The signal is so bad that independent contractors were the best way to break even.
The only chance for independent contractors is the 1,000 watt KKAY 1590 who by the way makes its money from gospel.
As far as ratings go. Moscona finished 5th in the fall book last year in adults 25-54 ahead of Wynk, tiger country, wjbo, river. 5th in men and women ... That equals cash fellas.
Songe and Ott was there best rated day part. Gonna be interesting what happens. The right mix of local and national shows is what big market stations are doing. 104.5 needs another local show.

How many people in BR do you think would've listened to 1210 IF they knew it existed?
I knew it existed and never listened. Mainly because the shows didn't appeal to me. I love LSU, but don't want to hear the same BS all day every day. It was the equivalent of reading the MSB board and getting opinions, but never going to ESPN, or the like, to get any real info on the game being talked about.

I wonder how WWL in New Orleans does it. They seem to have pretty much nothing but local stuff -talk during the day and sports at night. I guess it's paid people as opposed to renting out airtime.
Probably their size makes it work. And of course the Saint's games.

I think a solid 1210 line up would have been...
Jordy in the morning
Dan Patrick
Buddy for only 2 hrs
Rome
Ott for the drive home afternoon slot

I can see them doing a morning show. I'd imagine cowherd and svp do pretty well around here, so I don't see them bumping either of those.

Chris Landry will be fine, he scouts talent for college and pro football. This isnt the first time this has happened though. There used to be Team1300 am, wich if memory serves me correct had Jimmy Ott and other locals. Jimmy was also on another am station that had its tower wiped out by Gustav. It wouldnt surprise me to see at least a few of these shows to join another Am station probably with Sporting News Radio. Brando would sell really well in Baton ROuge, hes objective but is basically a Louisiana homer and hasnt forgot where he came from. I dont think we have heard the last of the Bud Man or "Sports Babe"

Not sure if the numbers support it, but DP should dominate Cowherd if they were head to head in the late morning.

WWL has a variety format -- mostly news talk and current affairs -- that is simulcasted on FM ... totally different set up .. plus it is 50,000 watt clear channel station that reaches Iowa at night .. different game ..

WJBO lost LSU in 1997 .. before 1210 moved under their umbrella .. WSKR's ratings aren't on the same page as 104.5's .. That's a horrible indictment in and of itself ..

1210 used to air Brando's show before bumping it for condo

Ott and Buddy were horrible. It was only a matter of time. You had the choice of listening to Mascona interview coaches, radio broadcasters, and other people within not only LSU but also the team LSU played, or listen to mfp call Ott James, and Buddy talk about spicy sausage.
On Mascona, I've heard interviews with people of significance in the sports world, like Kirk Herbstreit. With Buddy, I have to hear some waitress at some crappy restaurant give her opinion on the QB situation.

Would have loved this. I agree with keeping Cowerd and SVP. I'd be unhappy if they took away either. Mike and Mike is cool and all ... but take that. Or Brian Kenny at night. More local programming on the weekend would be a nice change. ESPN national talk on the weekends is pretty poor.

Tigah, you are correct about 1997 being the year wjbo lost it but trust me, 1210 was in their umbrella. I was a DJ there then and handled the imaging.

What's your next move gonna be Buddy?

1210 and 96.1 were together in DS .. They weren't tied in with WJBO and LSU at that time ..

Ok - I guess the next question (for everyone who cares to take a shot at it) is:
Predict the future of talk radio in BR, say at the time of the BCS game, and then say at the start of next football season.

It would be hard for 104.5 to get a consistent show after 6pm because of Tiger Rag radio(great show imo) on Tuesdays, Tiger-zone on Wednesdays and The Jaguar Journal on Thursdays. I say if they do add another local they should take Cowherds time slot. Herd is way overexposed and I really dont think there is a huge BR majority that actually enjoy him rather than observe and tolerate his jargon. SVP is seriously entertaining and always shows love to Les Miles frequently. Fade that into Scona and I think you have a perfect lineup that is professional and on FM. Just my two cents
