Even after he gathers there is 3 steps.

No. Not at all. He puts 2 hands the ball, then takes 2 steps. It's pretty clear.

The offensive player gathers with his right foot on the ground. He then takes two legal steps, before losing control of the ball. After regaining possession, a player is allowed to regain his pivot foot and pass or shoot prior to that foot returning to the ground. This is legal.

Legal according to this guy

Well frick me

So I can just sprint down the court all game without dribbling if I "lose the ball" at the right times?

Count the steps from when he has 2 hands on the ball. Which is considered a "gather". Whether or not the player has gathered the ball is important to what an official may call. Whether it's a foul or traveling.

So, by this logic, a player is allowed to cradle the ball with one hand and run the entire length of the floor?

Start counting Brewer's steps once he gathers the ball.

He has a big dribble, gathers, then takes 2 steps. Not travel.

If they are physically capable of making a bounce so powerful it travels the length of the floor....then yes.

Is this a travel?

I don't believe that's what they were asking

No. It’s not.

It’s also nothing like the play under discussion or my hypothetical.

Football and basketball need more refs on the field/court. Stuff like this should never happen.

That presumes they really want to ref sports legitimately

It's the same thing. Only ddifference is Brewer has his hand alongside the ball. Brewer was also able to create a longer version than what CP3 did because he had more momentum and could travel alongside the ball. It's a long/big dribble, a gather, 2 steps, then a bucket.

Eric Gordon's the other night was terrible too, but this one was worse. It's like there isn't a ref looking at the ball which should never be the case.

If this one by Beal isn't considered a travel, the NBA needs to change the rules. That's absurd.

It’s not resting alongside the ball. The ball is resting on his hand. He’s clearly carrying the ball.

Just so I'm clear, what's a gather?

Point is Brewer takes a "big dribble " and the ref isnt counting his steps until he gathers the ball, which is when he has both hands on the ball.

Oh, bullshite. The point of the rule is not that you have unlimited steps until you "gather" the ball and then get to take more steps. The gather is supposed to happen upon giving up the dribble and not at some indetermined point while running.

The rest of that post is just rubbish. The NBA simply isn't enforcing the rules of the game as they should.
